Brilliant man brilliant!
I notice you've dropped alot of the cliche greens and blues etc from the skin tones.
I think you've added some more definition, some sharper lines (something i think you could try more).
I really dig the earth in the foreground aswell.
No real critz to this, though some of the tones in the back drop are a little muddy. I know you wouldn't want to make them to stand-out so as to take away from the focal point, but I think they need a bit more clarity.

Very nice work.
How did it feel to go back to oils after doing digital for some time?

Did a quick temp painter fix for the right arm as a test.
Now I`ve just finished a 10 times better fix with oils, and will scan and post as soon as its dry;-)
As for going back..well I feels 10 times better than working digitally. But I`m sure I`ll do both.
You get this really nice relaxation feeling when painting. When I work digtally, I just feel wasted after a day of painting. After a day with oils, I feel like great and relaxed.
Maybe it`s the odors from the oils,-)

Nice work, veb! Very stylish. I like the colors and contrasts. One of my favorites from you...
Only crit would be to work on the hands a bit more. They look a little sketchy compared to the rest of the piece.

looks cool Veb.... Nice that you are doing oils again I like anatomy on the arm hanging over his axe very much...btw, that axe muct be heavy, since he can rest his arm such far out on it....hehe, just kidding..it doesn't matter.

I`ll probably have a party (with or without fajitas) later.Hopefullt before summer;-) But so busy in the near future.
The axes were heavier back then..doh. I might consider som tweaks, but they have a fairly low priority.

Okidoki..I painted with oils again. smaller format (european A3 rougly 40x30cm) so it could be scanned, and not take up teh entire livingroom while being painted;-)
The colors have been tweaked abit from the original and I have some fixes I will do digitally(like evening out some colors around the warrior)
The color and contrast will probably change as soon as I do a testprint.
Whaddayathink?

I like it
but... what's wrong with his right byceps?
And his neck is a bit short, but maybe he is looking to the front lowering the head?

Anyway, one who can stand to paint hours after hours in oils got my respect. First, the smell - though I like being an artist and paint in traditional media I cannot tolerate the smell of turpetine or oils any longer, it makes me ill. Hmm...I like the brush strokes and colors, I feel that the figure is too dark for the well lit background. Another thing FF does is, something I found out much later is that he arranges form, shadow, light and color purposefully as a compositional device. I could in most cases draw out an "X" in most of his paintings, whether the Mammoth or the Polar Bear painting. You can definitely see it going on in his paintings. He does this in purpose to create tension that forces the central figure to pop out at you. Also, the first painting of "Kane" walking towards you between the two craggy walls is a good example of him using "X". As for this posted piece,I'm guessing it's work-in-progress, but having same color saturation for both foreground and background is not what I would do. I would make the hero, the tree and the ground more saturated in color. As for contrast you got it. Anyway, good work overall. Ed--

hehe the force of gravity on that planet it pretty high , his right arm does look a bit odd drooping down,
but other than that another piece of wicked work, are u got put more deatail into the background ?

Well Ed..in most of my images I have done what you said. S x triangle and circle compositions. I kinda changed things as I went along here, so the hero stood out less. This I might fix;-)

There is deffenetly something cooler when something is done with a real paints.
Very nice.
One thing is kinda bothering me though. The way he is resting his arm on the axe handle...Unless the axe blade is realy realy heavy he wouldnt be able to relax it on there with out tiping it. I think It would have looked a little better if he was grabbing hold of the handle.
If this was mentoned before then go ahead and disregard. I didnt have time to read all the posts.
Other than that is just Fucking good.
Blitz.....Keep up the Oil Painting |

Wuh. Nice pic verbjorn. I would state that this is 100 times more powerfull than your latest digital paintings... Very very nice. Some good points from Ed Lee I think, but apart from that I have nothing else to say. Great work.

hi
For some weird reason the publisher of conan did not want this. She though it was one of my best, but it she was not sure if it would work well as a cover since it was so "passive". She considered maybe taking it later..since it might be a "pms" reaction hehe. Considering she has printed all sorts of crap with coan just posing with a sword or an axe, I find it kinda strange:-(
I am considering putting in a naked chick..that might do it;-)
