heh, he looks like he's rubbing his johnson with that 2nd mace.... nice for the first piece, but the legs are too short and the shoulders and upper body are way too wide, even for a strong pimp warrior like him.... and there's not a lotta depth on him, but since i'm just too used to seeing kickass art on this board.... nice for the first try though

Nice for a firts try. You are on to something here, but the anatonomy isn't correct. I suggest you find some pictures from the movie "gladiator". Use some time shading. Shading makes the picture. My suggestion, use some time on the anatonomy. Think it will improve it. Anyway.....I'm impressed.

That's terrible for a first try -- no, just kidding! Heh, just felt like saying that cause I've seen quite a few first try posts (and they're usually pretty decent) Anyway, yeah, yeah, first try--now look at it and try to do all the things you don't like better in the next, etc...

This is my first attempt at digital art, and I'd really like comments.

Also, I made a progress page at http://www.infowest.com/personal/e/eflowers/gaph/gaph1.htm , so please look.

Thanks.

Even if this is not like the best pic in this forum, I really like watching those phases of doing the picture. No matter what the result is. It's always so satisfying to see how the picture goes through every phase and changes a bit every time.

But of course it's always nicer to watch when REALLY nice picture is under work.

Thats great for your first try.

ahh.. back in the days of my first tries... hehe boy oh boy were mine shitty! lol!

I think the main thing though that you need to work on is laying off the dodge and burn... now i know i know.. your probably sobbing right now since those are probably the coolest tools in photoshop LOL....but it REALLY helps alot if you try to stay away from them. If you practice not using the dodge and burn and concentrate on picking and using different colors to define your forms, i think you will definetly improve.

Try getting as close to finishing your painting as you can without touching the dodge and burn once... then when you think you've gone as far as you can without touching those really COOL tools... then go ahead and pick them up, and add Details... but im straining you to only use them for details and not to reshade and re color your whole picture otherwise you will destroy everything you busted your butt to do WITHOUT abusing the dodge and burn tools...

anyhow...i hope this helps....and i really do think this is a great start. everyone starts off like this and its a GREAT starting place... but dont get stuck there.

ROFL.....that is THE funniest thing I've heard in weeks.

Interesting work with the veins on the arms and such, proportions are slightly off with the head and such. I like the grass too.
