Yeah... it lacks spunk. Maybe try adding a little more excitement to it. I can't really offer too much of a crit because the subject matter is used so often. So if you're wanting something more noticeable you should definitely edit your signature.

I think you forgot to post your image

I'm looking at it thinking? is this guy in a battle? or is he just posing for the artist? It lacks the drama and extreme nature of a battle. just an exaggerated pose (thats not so static) may add a much more dynamic feel.

Let's see here, the majority so far thinks that it lacks drama and spunk. But how could this be? The ingredient: storm clouds, sreaming man with sword raised, purple horse, naying, with it's mane blowing ing the wind. How could it NOT be dramatic? Maybe what's bugging the others folks is the fact that we don't know why it's so dramatic. Out of context it seems melo-dramatic. It's a good painting though, and the horse has nice teeth. |

The pose has some definate shortcomings for a warrior, as said by others. It looks almost similar to someone standing on the ground holding a sword. If he's thrusting his sword upward his arm should be extended so far that his shoulders are being pulled by a heroic thrust of a sword. If he's swinging his sword with all his might then his body should be turned so he can swing the sword with as much force as possible. His leg also looks somewhat 'relaxed' to be anchored properly to the horse he would probably be straining against the stirrups(sp?) and digging into th horses side, meaning his thighs would be higher up and lower legs further back.
Aside from the pose the image is really nice to look at. The detail is great, especisally the textures in that his armour looks like armour and his hair looks like hair.
Two things that could maybe be adjusted on the horse are his meign(main? the hair coming from the back of its head!) which looks like he gelled it this morning. The second thing are his teeth, which look almost human. The teeth should just be bigger, I can see alot of teeth in this picutre compared to what I have ever seen when a horse opens its mouth.
On a more positive note the nostrils are really accurate and nice.
Ps, sorry to be so critical I'm just picking on lots of little things. I really do like the image despite the many things I have pointed out. It is a good concept with outstanding detail. It could tell more of a story though.
Keep up the beautiful artwork!

I really love your 3D characters at your webpage...
Hey, I see you've recreated the Vicente Caldern in Max!
About the pic, I think it should have some more "movement"...but I envy you as I've never been able to paint horses. |

I like the image, but if you realllllyyy want input.
1) The vein on the horse's head (from the eye down to the bit) is not exactly anatomicly correct. They dont really do that even if pushed to their limit
2) The breast / chest of the horse is kind of blurry, with an odd sense of emphasis of the actual muscles. The muscle on this part of the horse looks kind of like upside down cleavage (yes I know that is an odd wayof of comparing it)
3) The horses left leg (our right) has a strange line to it, It does not exactly look like a leg of a horse.
Again I like the image, but the anatomy of the horse is a little off.
ps take this opinion with a grain of salt... |

yeah, cool pic,
i think the horse looks a little stiff (maybe look cool at a greater angle with one of its hooves in the air?)
and maybe a little bluring in some areas of the pic while keeping others sharp might look good??
anyway, cool,... keep it coming!

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like the back end of the horse just kinda disappears into nothingness. I know the perspective is the horse/rider running front, but maybe just a little definition of the horse's backside would help out the picture.
Another question, is the rider supposed to be that close to the horse's mane? I haven't paid a lot of attention to riders when they ride horses, so I'm not sure if he's supposed to be close enough for the hair of the horse's mane to touch him or not.
Otherwise very nice, I really like the sword |
