[EDIT] Step by Step on a sketch on another post below, crits/comments welcome [/EDIT]

I was trying to work on quicker sketching here, each of these took about 30 minutes. I guess I'm a little slow, before I would spend an hour if I did a sketch like these, and spend the extra time figuring, checking, measuring & fixing forms. With a half an hour I just put everything right down and go on.
Is half an hour a good time to spend on sketches like these or am I still a little slow? Any sketching style suggestions?

30 min for these I think is just fine. What i would sugest to you is find a figure drawing class. With a good model you can do quick 10 second gestures, 2 min poses, 5 min sketches all the way up to 30 min drawings. A good model will keep track of how long they hold the poses for. But the down side is you dont always get as pritty a model as all these ladys you have drawn.

not bad, but try doing all sorts of types and lengths of time sketches... you'll learn to take stuff in naturally instead of trying to figure it out, but it only happens with experience

I think overall you have some anatomy issues, you might consider checking out some good anatomy books to help you out. Keep drawing and keep improving

The reference pics deserve the credit for the natural poses Now that I look at my message, I guess I didn't say specifically that they were from photo-references.
I was wondering who the first person to recognize the source would be, I think it's a pretty good source

I usually get it closer to right than these by being meticulous in drawing forms by taking extra time. (measuring relative lengths with my pencil, checking positions relative to other parts of the drawing, etc.)I thought I did pretty well this time even drawing quickly when I finished them, but now later they don't look so good, always seems to happen.

Jason: Don't always get as pretty a model? You mean sometimes I will? Yeah, I keep thinking of taking a figure drawing class or other art classes, but never seem to get up and do it.

I figured when drawing from reference my lack of anatomical knowledge wouldn't be noticeable, but I guess my brain makes shortcuts/distorts things because of this lack. Any specific anatomy issues stand out especially?

And that thread title is supposed to be "lots of women" instead of the enigmatic "lots of woman"

Here's a step by step of one of my drawings... I wouldn't call it a tutorial because I'm not very good at it took me longer than I thought to set this up, so any comments are very welcome.




each step took 5 or 6 minutes.
1. Trying to lightly outline her basic form to get me a starting point, I make small corrections later.
2. I start to fill in more interior details, the face will look really funny until I try to fix it at the very end. A few outline fixes too.
3. Mainly I start to lay down some basic shading. I used my finger to smudge, to make the tone more even.
4. I darken up some shades and add a few more details.
5. Same as number 4. Since it's a quick drawing, I don't worry about specific forms in the details, just go for the general feel.
6. I draw the face and put on the finishing touches/fixes.

Now that I look at it there are more things to fix, but to get the drawing done this fast you have to draw draw draw
