Photo ref was used. I really feel like this image was a landmark for me. I did things I had never done before and I feel like I learned a lot. Original res is twice this size. Crits and comments welcome as always

Wow!
Jezebel, you are improving a lot!
You are a good artist and you are improving
I love the reflections and the overal mood
My only suggestion (no crits) would be something alive, like an animal in the foreground. But it's just a matter of taste |

Wow - I really like the mist in this piece -
and the reflections in the water are great too, except that the bend in the tree isn't really reflected in the water.. But who am I to talk, it's much better than anything i could do. The thread title is right on the money.. it definitely looks peaceful.
Great job! |

looks very nice-
the only thing i'd probably tweak would be the sky. however I am not really sure what exactly .. so i am not a big help here

Nice. The tree shows through with just a few specks extra detail that really add to it. Composition is a bit planar... looking on so that everything could be cut-outs, you know what I mean? |

I thought I would go ahead and post this altered version of it. I think it looks pretty cool, I feel like the entire mood is changed. I gave it the graininess to try and get that really old photo feel... or something, hehe.

Very moody.. I wish I would have painted that. I agree with Ragnarok... I miss something In the foreground... don't know if its an animal.. a plant or whatever....
anyway... looking great! |

The first one is good and I was going to suggest changing the colours so they were more natural and atmospheric, then I looked at the second and I don't think you could get much better! Really is excellent and something to be proud of. Although it doesn't need it, a Knight or roe deer in the foreground or just across from the birch would look really great. Nice work

Wow Beth, these are looking very good. You're really improving. I really like the morning mist, really gives it a quiet serene feel. The piece definitely has earned its title.
Good stuff,

Wow, I'm surprised I got as many replies as I did! This is so encouraging. Honestly I thought this image would slip off the front page with maybe 2 or 3 replies. I figured most people would find a landscape sorta boring, but I found it very soothing to work on.
Faust - Thanks!
Ragnarok - Thanks to you as well. I think that I may take you up on that suggestion about planting something in the foreground.
Rhythmeen - You have a good point with the bend in the tree. I was trying to show that the water was sort of stretching the reflection, therefore the bend was elogated out of existence. But if it looks weird, perhaps I should change that. Thanks.
Nex - Any suggestions for the sky Nex?
travis travis - I was originally so afraid to do the tree because I thought it would look very unnatural, but I'm actually rather pleased with the result. Thanks!
jasonN - Thank you!
Darklighter - I don't think that's at all neccesary but I appreciate it anyways
Sumaleth - Thanks!
CrashWick - Ok, two votes for something in the foreground. Now I definitely have to do it.
Budoka - Eeep, 3 votes! Thanks for the compliments!
Sempere - Thank you, I just love your work so a comment from you is very appreciated!
Skeezer - Thank you tons for that comment Skeezer. It's always wonderful to hear people tell you they think you're improving.
*smiles hugely*

Way Cool x2 (i.e. muy bueno)
Personal preference: I like the colors of the first one better, not sure why, just looks peaceful. |

Lovely work here Beth, gets across the atmosphere very well indeed.
I think people have already made the crits about depth. Just needs to have a bit more dimension.
Either way, a lovely pic.

I got the perfect idea for what it needs in the foreground ... a fly-fisherman casting

Great stuff!
I actually like the second version better, but that's because I'm weird....
IF I should pick on SOMETHING....:
The grass in front seems a bit flat (like a straight wall of grass in a way). That's it.
Good work!

A really nice atmosphere here.
The only thing that caught my eye was the reflection of the reeds in the bottom left. The reflection has a hard line where the hue changes, which I'd personally have made more subtle - but that's just me!!
Quite a change in mood from the wolf!
Good job.

Very nice dude. I actually prefer the sepia version. Looks very traditional!
That's it,
