But nooooo, I get to live in the arctic goddamn region.
Ok now that I got that off my chest, here's the result of my recent struggle with basic perspective. I got a wee bit tired of hearing of the perspective problems in every single pic of mine with the tiniest bit of geometry in them :]. The idea was just to nail down some interesting shadows, but I got a little carried away and ended up giving most thought to them values.

VERY VERY VERY NICE GECO. Its my favorit of yours so far. I love the colors on it and the shadows from the railing. very nice comfortable place. I would maybe sujest some detail in the cealing seing how thats alot of the pic. Not drastic detail but mabe a patern so it looks like its been painted or something. Id be interested in seeing what Mr Good brush whould have to say about this one. Its almost along his style and I would venture to say just as good. Its beautiful. Keep it up kid.
Very very very NICE!!!

Mmmmmmh, I feel all warm inside. Looks like a mountain temple in the afternoon sun.
I think the perspectives a bit off.... j/k
Great pic.

sweet geck, but i think with such bright light that the shadows would be quite a bit darker, despite the light reflected off walls. |

Great job, I've been a fan of your work for a while. Values look right on to me. I guess you know about the small errors in the shadows. One thing I thought I'd point out though is that the shadows go towards the viewer, but from the bright light on the visible edges of the window, it suggests to me that the sun (a directional light source, not point source) is on the near side, and the shadows/light should go away from the viewer deeper into the picture (also suggested from the fact that the light hits the back wall.)

Very cool, although the red in the ceiling becomes very monotonous as it reaches the foreground. The lighting kicks some serious ass. |

Very nice Gecko. very nice colors and the indirect lighting is very well made!
The roof seem a little unfinshed? And I would probably have made the outer walls a bit thicker...

Cool. Only thing that "bothers" me is the ceiling. I think it's lacking some depth maybe. As a whole, good work.

Gecko, this is absolutely perfect. I haven't been commenting much on anything lately, but this has prompted me at last. This took my breath away....man, I just looked at it again *breath*
Yeah, keep it up, this is gorgeous

Wow Gecko, that is simply fantastic.
a few comments. I have trouble with the size relationships. if you compare the size of the door (which I'm guessing is pretty big and grand in terms of doors) with the height of the guard rail. the rail comes off looking quite large. this is probably added to by the low viewing angle (or at least it seems low, maybe this place is huge, in which case that guard rail is not going to do much good^_^).
Also, I'll take a guess and say that there might be some rather intense reflected light on the right wall, right at the bottom. the shaddows might also get softer near the right wall.
But yeah, I love all the stuff you've been doing lately. |

Looks great, gecko.
My only comment is that the left wall looks too thin for the weigth it should support, but otherwise it's an amazing painting.

Really looks like a nice place..
Two things that strike my eye:
1 - You could paint some radiosity effects on the right wall.. light would bounce off the floor and hit the lower part of the wall
2 - the veils that are hanging in front of the windows should cast a somewhat stronger shadow if you ask me... but hey.. thats just my personal preference..
other than that... very good )

skeezer: watch it! :D
napalm: i don't get the logic. On a bright sunny day shadows are everything else but dark. i observed how it works on the kitchen table when sun hits it for a couple of hours each day :]
kreuze: you're totally right about the light source. The walls facing the viewer should not get lit, but call it artistic lisence: i wanted to make the pic more interesting.
Also, the backend has the light hitting it on the sole purpose of making it look more 3dish with some shadows being cast.
I wasn't sure about the ceiling, I think it should be a bit brighter, but then again, I don't know so I didn't go too far with any assumptions, I wanted to have logic behind every shadow & light on the pic. It would look better (and more 'right') with some light being reflected on the wall to the right, but I wasn't sure how it would actually look like so I didn't go my way guessing. That has its places, but not in this pic.
the thin walls probably couldn't support the huge ceiling-thingie, you are right about that. Never thought of it :]
rinaldo: really good point about the shadows getting softer, I took a walk today to see how things work in sunshine, and shadows had their verticals very sharp, but horizontal edges soft, fading away. What's up with that??
And the guard rail, it was supposed to be some 2 meters (6 feet) tall, making the doorway a little less than 4 meters (use your heads) tall. I agree, it's purpose is more of a decorative one than anything else.
crashwick: the veils. I didn't have good reference material handy, but I guess it's rather hard to say how strong the shadow could be. The material could be really light, or not much so, can it be judged from the pic?
All the great ideas are almost forcing me to paint stronger pillars and play more with the reflected light... Thanks!!
