... pretty boy.

Uhm, yeah, right - I should explain myself here. I like to draw pretty boys (much like a lot of you people here like to draw pretty girls)... Only my view of a pretty boy is rather difficult to draw... since they all end up looking like girls

So... I thought I'd draw from reference for once, picking a picture of a rather cute guy, and trying to keep at least something of that which makes male faces look male, while paining a picture that matches the face I want for the character. Am I making any sense?

I think I succeeded:

- Jynthewel.

Reference used (at some point, I must've flipped my picture horizontally, to make sure the features were not all screwed up... and when I flipped it back, I found I liked it better the way it is... so...) :

So. Ah. I feel much better now Next time I'll work without reference. I've learned. I like learning.

(Edit) Gaah, forgot, I meant to include: (which, by the way, is still a shrunk version of it)

(Edit2) Replaced the picture

i think you did a great job, the face looks a lot like the reference. the whole pic looks really good, as per usual

------------------
-"Everybody say it with me and wiggle!! Peas! Peas! Peas! Peas! Peas! Peas! Look! David Hasslehoff can fly! .. Conspiracy!! And now employing juvenile mongoloid demon babies!! My famous chicken recipe will never be yours!! Grrr! Woof!"
-"it appears to be some sort of a congregation..care for some gopher?"
-"I can't wear a turtle neck. It's like being strangled by a really weak guy. Like, if you wear a turtle neck and a backpack, it's like a midget is on your back choking you."
-"As the profecies foretold, he becomes president, builds a rocket suit, and all this bad shit happens."

His chin is very very shiny. Has he been drooling? Or perhaps you are the responsible drooler. :P

As ever, fantastic work, in fact, more fantastic than usual, although I'm not sure how many showers of praise you'll get this time around. You succeeded in making him more plausibly male, while retaining that special beauty you breath into everything, and that added realism might keep a few of the guys away from here.

His neck is bugging me. It looks so uncomfortably straight.

It looks pretty good. Nothing really to crit. But if you give it more rough and squared off features it will look more like a guy.

Heheh, I can see that now - the chin is a bit shiny... but then, the background sucks, so I think I can live with that until I feel a bit more up to fixing it

Thanks for the compliments everyone

The whole POINT of this picture is for me to train my own style, actually. This guy isn't supposed to have rough and square features.

Enayla: You seem to be ashamed of using reference. Why is that? There is nothing wrong with it, you have to learn how to paint certain things, somehow.

Anyways, your picture is very nice. Although I think there should be some more highlights on the ear and maybe some sharper edges on it.

Genetics suck, as a fetus, it's just a gamble that you end up getting genes that develop into the "pretty boy" face mold. Call me negative or even call this reply useless...you can't deny the truth...
It's not fair...

I gues that is what plastic surgery is for eh?

Wow...me likes. What a pleasant change, what with all of the half-naked women around here. Nice to see a cute guy =) I especially love his eyes and hair, they're just gorgeous. Wow, I said wow, and did I mention that I like this picture? I think you should quit drawing females entirely and just draw boys ^_^

NO! dont stop drawing girls!
but i do think this is cool. problems i see are that the point on the ear looks too thin and maby slightly transparent at the tip, and the neck decorations dont look quite right. maby its the shadows

That's very well-done. At first... before the picture loaded, I assumed it would be an atrocious cutefest, but the prettiness of the guy does not offend me at all. It looks like there is a story behind his looks, as if the way he grew up, his culture, and his family affected his features. I'd liken it to the way the Nameless One in "Planescape Torment" exudes story through his scars and tatoos and his expression.

That's hard to do - to give meaning to form - and with a still portrait Very nice!

Very nice work Enayla, however there seems to be something off about the neck, it just doesnt seem totally "right" to my eye...

Keep up the good work

Note to self: Fix ear, and work on the neck a bit. Edit the outfit.

Thanks everyone!!

Thing is, I often look at pictures to a degree when drawing, but raaaarely as much as I did when making this one. 'twas a very learning experience though. And I'm pretty pleased with the results Glad to see others like it as well.

I'm not "ashamed", as such, using reference... but I wish I could've produced this one without it

(Edit) Oh, and Panda... go post your complaints on one of the pictures of girls with boobs that could be used as floating devices. I make one picture of a cute boy and you start whining about genetics... sheesh... Yeah, sure - it's unfair. Tell me something that's not?

Sweet lighting...I love the greenish highlights on his nose, forehead, and chin. I think you've quite outdone yourself on the skin tones. At first, I thought the clothes seemed a bit flat, but the stylization works well with the equally non-representational background. All in all, I'd rate it a success.

He's much prettier than the reference lad. You've made the features more refined. I like that.

*Bumbles off* I haven't slept in 48 hours. Sorry I couldn't make a more intelligent comment.

I think I don't fit in your male schemes...but anyway, your pic is simply awesome (mmmm...maybe the ear is a bit blurred for my tastes, but those are my personal tastes).

great work: great work *collapses into chair*

...but why do I have the feel he's 28, but has the skin of a 5 year old? Maybe he's a model for skin lotions ...

well the reference pic didn't load for, so maybe somewhwere there're such boys and at least it's another elf

I wish I could take a look over your shoulder while working - I'm sure I'd learn a lot

Wow, lots of comments. Due to bad headache, I won't respond to every single comment, but instead just point out a few things...

...I've fixed the picture a little. Just some minor tweaks. He does NOT look like Ugly DiCaprio - pleeeeeeeeease say he doesn't!

He's got soft skin because he's an elf. The elves I draw are usually of the ageless kind...

And thanks everyone for your nice compliments

*chuckles at her comments*

Would you really want a chest of floatation device proportions? Personally, I'm not at all fussy when it comes to ladies and their attributes. They all look good to me, reguardless of shape or size. The most beautiful, attractive girl I've ever known was an A cup, but that said, I like them all. 'All' excluding those of the fake variety. I'm just happy to be there, very easy to please.

Anyway, enough rambling about the beauty that is woman, and on to your beautiful man. His chin looks perfect, now, much like the rest of him, almost too good to be true. I like what you did with his costume, too, it looks much more like he's actually wearing it. Not that I would, mind you, but my own tastes aren't the issue here.

After a year looking at your pictures, I've only just noticed why your pointy ears fascinate me so much... we do them completely differently. You do them with the long edge going straight up on the side, with the point on the top, like Mr Spock. I tend to do them with the point growing a bit more towards the back, swept back a bit, like a smaller version of what Mogwai and Gremlins have. I think yours look more elegant, by far, while mine look more... I dunno, cocky, perhaps?

Anyway, fantastic work! It's almost scary that you never stop improving, as impossible as that seems.

Dear Linda, you draw, looking to the photo (and professional question: do you make pencil sketch before drawing in Photoshop?), but in this time thinking about Leo =))) It's true, that it some looks like guy from photo from one side and from another - like Leo
Anyway, good, good, VERY good artwork!
How many time do you spend to draw first sketch (wuthout color shading)? And what was the size of original image? 1200*2000?

he has that really fake airbrushed look to him. when one of my teachers was doing an airbrush demonstration he showed us one of the ways to get rid of that look. he'd take a toothbrush and put on a bit of a complimentary color and flick it across the canvas. when he'd airbrush over it'd leave a nice texture and would make it more skin like... all of his airbrushed people looked really realistic (that and hes damn good). he does have that pretty boy look, but he's just so darn plasticy looking

another thing id look at maybe adding would be how the part between your eyebrow and your ear on your scalp comes to sort a point.. his hair is just rounded from bangs to ear.

excellent painting, and the detail on his eye is astonishing. i also dig the orange highlights in his hair
