I took y'alls advice re: the perspective problem in my last pic and tried to get it right in this one. It's still sloppy as hell but everything I do is. =(
No need to be gentle! Bash away if you have something to say! I will be grateful and learn from anything said. |

I like it. Looks to me to be some sort of a futuristic artic base or something, with a little ramp to drive your snowmobilevehicle into shelter during the hard storms.... Just one question: Where are the cute polarbears??
I would turn down the dogde/burn effect you got going. I can see that you're going for the weathered/old look, but this just look like bad use of tools... The drawing itself is strong enough to do well on its own...

#1) Thanks for the comments, mates! Your words are appreciated as always.
#2) BooM I'll take your advice on my next piece and not blow it out so much. Besides I hope to begin coloring them soon!
#3) LEE!!!!!! Hey hey old buddy-o! Oh man I hope you don't remember me too much from the ION days. I was a little unhappy about the way things were going there so most people there probably remember me pretty negatively. =(
Since then I worked with Eric and Jerry at MisfitBeach and we did Patenaude's Elvis In Dogtown project... you can see my animation on it here: http://www.abstractreality.com/portfolio/gallery/avis/avi_elvisindogtown.html
or the full Flash demo and chopped up rendered demo here: http://www.misfitbeach.com
and of course my "official" art page is here: http://www.abstractreality.com/art
DO YOU have a webpage, Lee? I'd love to see it and link to it if you do.
OH and I've been at Verant/Sony Online Entertainment since October... here in San Diego. I'm doing all the in-game/frontend interface work for Sovereign. I'm pretty happy here and I expect to be here for a while...
Please reply with a link to your site! I'm sure you have one!

Sadly enough I don't have a site right now, getting a damned DSL is rediculous. I could commit a felony and have an easier time getting an UZI than getting someone to set me up with some decent bandwidth!
Hehe, and I think most people remember everyone at some point or another being unhappy there. If they weren't disgruntled, give it a month.
Post more! That shot looks like it should be part of a series, no? |

Again, I will heed your words my friends and thanks again for them.
As far as why I do these things - I'm primarily a 3d artist and these little sketches are just to try to improve my conceptual skills. This is an example of a drawing I would do for say, an RTS or something... More than anything I notice that the best artists draw a lot. So I am trying to do the same... trying to draw frequently hoping to improve in quality over time.
The comments people make here help a lot. A fabulous forum. Though I wish I could respond to posts without bumping because sometimes I want to respond here, like right now, for example - but without seeming like I'm constantly bumping my own post.
Thanks for checking that out (the animation)! Those characters were designed by Brian Patenaude http://www.brianpatenaude.com - quite a zany guy.
I just turned 26 and I am going to draw CONSTANTLY until I am 30. I hope by then, to be a very good conceptual artist. |
