The counter and wall look like they do because i was trying to get a painterly look, but thats not very easy to do in Photoshop with a mouse, so i gave up on that idea by the time i got to the figure.
ummm.... its kinda a valentines pic! see? there is a visible heart! (supposed to be glowing through his chest, but dont know iff i pulled it off(the bones are just body paint)). Tell me what you think. Rip it apart. I can take it, and i want to get better.
I NEED A WACOM!!! anybody wanna donate to the cause ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |

not too shabby. crit huh? ok
start with the background. i actually like the look of it, but it isnt "painterly" at all. it just looks like some strokes with the paintbrush and a ripple filter. again, i like it but to get a more painted look, use some custom brushes, more transparent washes, and in different colors. it helps give more texture.
the tabletop is excellent, nice depth and texture.
the bottom portion of the table is the same as the wall. i like it, but it could use more colors/texture.
the floor is way out of perspective and a little dark.
the figure:
there are some minor things in the anatomy. his head is too round. there are more planes and recesses on the head than that. also, if it's body paint, and not a body suit, he needs toes and... ...*ahem* "bits and peices".
overall though, the anatomy is good. the "body paint" skeleton actually hurts it though. the two bones in the forearm dont cross like that and the skull doesnt look like a skull
also, when imagining putting body paint on, i would think that you would put it on the outside of the arms, not the front. on the upper arm, i think the paint should be pushed out and flattened more, like it's on the side, but that may be me. does that make sense?
the lighting on the paint is also off. it wouldn't be all white, like on "his" left shin, that should be in shadow.
the lighting in general is very dark, darker than it should be. his cast shadow wouldnt be that dark. the yellow wall is a bright color and would reflect light back at him. i see you reflected some on the tabletop, but there needs to be yellow secondary light on "his" right ribcage and arm. on the legs too.
overall, great peice, i like the subject and mood, you just need to work on the details.
SporQ
oh, and it's very easy to lose a post to the swarm that is the sijun forum, so don't take it personally. |

Thank you for the comments
SporQ: ThankYou! about the wall, you hit almost right on the head. but I only have a mouse :*( . ah thats just an excuse. ill keep that in mind.
i thought the floor came out well
about the toes, i cant draw bare feet well, so, um ill just call it ....artistic liscence. or something. and the "bits and pieces"are in the shadows of his left leg
i think when the wrist is turned like that they do cross (or i have a bad anatomy book) so it was on purpose, and so was the skull.
good point on the lighting. i think the yellow on the table was kind of unintentional.
Thank you for taking the time to coment.
here is a new version, (done before these oments) i decided the glowing heart was kinda lame, and i changed some other things

Need a tablet, eh? If you're old enough, get a job. It's the fastest way to be able to get things. Yes, work sucks, but on the other hand, this is NOT a very charitable world. Otherwise ask for it for some holiday or birthday present.
As for the pic, not bad, shows some aptitude... the ripple filter is questionable because we can see it as a ripple filter... and the color scheme is certainly glum, but you might be going for that... a tablet will offer you a lot more, but don't expect miracles, technique is key. |

Heh... Kind of reminds me of the VooDoo baron from "Live and Let Die" (James Bond). Like he's taking a break between dark rituals involving chickens and snakes. I wish I could contribute a tablet to the cause. Believe me I know your pain. You'll get one eventually and it will make all the difference.
Best.

the skeleton does not look painted on to be. it looks like an attempt to show the inside of the figure. and to me that makes the piece not work bucuase even if that was your intention,(wich i know it was'nt) it does'nt look right. sadly i have no idea about how to fix this. and it may only be me who sees it like this. it looks a lot better without the heart-and it does look more like a hollween piece. over all i still like it so don't give hope. oh and did you say that was done with a mouse? if so you NEED a graphics pad.
just my thoughts

Wow! this is the most replies i have gotten.
Thanks everyone.
Faustgfx: yeah, its Mr. Idiot/Mr. Fool
Biggun01: thanks. I suppose there are some problems with it, but for the most part, i like how the skeleton turned out.
Yeah, i know, but i dont forsee getting one for at least annother month.
Awetopsy: Thanks. i agree about the lighting. it seems to me to be different on the face than the rest of it, and some other problems. and i think there was someone painted like a skeleton in romeo+juliet
Thanks all! |
