I dont think the light source is that bad. Of course i'm not makign it. What's wrong with it in your opinion? Both pcitures are great. I always love your color pallet.

Swampbug, i tried something over the pic, and I think it solves some problems, but leaves a bunch. Not sure if the tips of the stairs should really get a hint of light

Not overly fond of the second one, although its produced nicely, just boring.
Now the first is damn amazing, I love it. It needs to be framed and hanging in my fucking room!.
Its a whole different style/change/palette for you and what a good one at that.
For such I change you've done very well, even now you could combine the two techniques and produce some sort of freak with a lively backgound to top it off.
I think a golf claps in order *golf clap*.

janne: I really like the atmosphere you portray in your pics and your colour choices are always moody and inspiring. I think perhaps the green in the second picture is a bit 'intense'. Also, I think that the corrections with regard to shadow that Gecko has provided have 'grounded' the pic a little bit more. The first one reminds me of the cut scenes in the game Thief: The Dark Project.

Great pics, the first one is very inspiring.

First one's color range and use is damn nice. Quite a mood there. Gecko pretty much seems to have nailed the light source on the second one. Green plants seem to me to go really olive-drab or gray-green at night, even under light; except for a few highlights on leaves? Just a thought.

Gotta love this Forum. Great stuff!

Wow!
the first one is great!
nice with green on top.

the second has a nice subject. I have had some stairs in the back of my head for some time now...
The composition needs something more though, it drops out in the down right corner...you need something to pick the attention up...something looking in the opposite direction up the stairs? a cat?

very illustrative pictures!

thanks all for the feedback! i too like the first pic better... the biggest prob in it is that it has a very common and used up color palette for me... i mean i was going to try something different and here we are with a palette i have used zillion times already. blah

gecko's advice on light on the second one is definitely on the right track. gecko illustrated what i meant when i said lightsourcing is off.

shardik: hmm, in which way the perspective is off? it probably is(no vps or straight lines drawn...) but i'm blind on my own mistakes on this...

quaternius: i completely agree with you. good points.

simon: valid points... lower part of the second pic is the worst area in it and fixing that up interestingly enough the composition probs might be cured too. hmhmm.
ohwell, i'm also planning to do more stairs when time permits.
