Drake wrote of the "vile, stynking fogs" that enveloped the northern Ca coast. I don't think any of those guys would be lucky enough to be on the rock. |

Another instant classic! The airbrushy mist and colors are very convincing --I feel soaked just looking at it. It's very briny. I really love the area to the left of picture --it's more gestural and a perfect counterpart to the structure of the ship. It also conveys a lot of motion and I find my eye just rocking back and forth along it's curve. Form follows function. Good stuff working on a lot of levels. I weep for my underdeveloped skills.

Very very nice spooge. The choice of colors are excellent, and so are the values
as usual. Are you going to leave it as it is, or tighten it up more?

Can anyone paint better than Craig, especially I mean these "movie" scenes.

My honest opinion is not digitally. Maybe traditionally
And there might be a FEW who have more refined techniques than Craig, but there are none that have his sense for what looks, and excuse the lackluster term, cool. It seems as though Craig has an endless bag of tricks in his head. It seems like there is nothing he can't paint, no scene too complex. It's quite amazing. Also, his ability to create mood and atmosphere is unmatched in my opinion. He is, and will remain so, my favorite digital artist of all time. He deserves all acclaim he recieves and more.

really low the hues in this, gives it such a dank feeling of misery and loss of hope.
I prefer low saturation in general but its just done so well here tho the pessimist in me would have enjoyed a couple of tiny strewn bodies lying haphazardly on the rocks or handing from the riggings

Gorgeous Spooge! Your understanding to create such a dynamic mood with colors is unreal. Tree Merchant well said, you basically sum it up for me.
Thanks for posting Spooge!

I don't think the left would look as empty if he had detailed the crashing wave there. Just use the imagination, and it's easy to see the waves crashing and rolling whilst the men struggle to grip the rocks.

I wouldn't even know where to start on a picture like that. Do I start with darks first.. lights? What color goes first ! I'm really baffeled by how you can really paint on the computer. I have the slightest idea how to do that yet. Anyone know of any good tuts for that? |

Awesome sense of motion here. You can almost hear the rumble and crash of the waves.
I know you use the paintbrush mostly, but is there selective use of the airbrush here?

since all the positive things have been said the only thing left is the bitter fruit for me to bite in
I really like the mood and atmosphere but I think the composition could need a few tweaks. The left part of the picture seems a bit empty...
well that does not change the fact that this is a really strong image- |

It's increadible to see that kind of picture, which give the impression to be highly detailed, while this impression is only due to your excellent choice of color.
I'm truly admirative of your work Craig!

I'd try to hold him up for his talent too but, then again he had to start somewhere to. I'd really be interested to see some of his pics from when he was a younger lad, 18 or so. |

Yes, the studio light. It does look like that. It is because of the diffuse sky source is very bright, looks like a lot of reflectors or fill cards were used. This could happen in nature, but it would be rare and fleeting.
Swampbug. Start with a gray green, then block in the basic shapes with a little darker color. Then a little lighter than the first green. Easy!
Hey Bishop, did you get that thing I sent?
Ceenda, I have never used the airbrush. What can it do that the paintbrush cannot? And the paintbrush you have a lot more control.
Sorry I cannot write more, must sleep.
