Hey hey!. This is good. Considering how you've used few simple forms, how uncluttered it is, its very cool(I'm finding it hard to say something constructive).
That whole doorway area is great (I bet you like it too).
I think of putty or clay when I see this....hmmm, weird.
Perhaps give him a mouth or atleast a slight shadow to represent one.
Good stuff! |

I dig this. His face looks a little too blocky maybe. But except that..nice work! It has some sort of calmness in it. I can really hear the echo's from the footsteps when I look at it

Nice atmosphere, and nice colors, as usual. :] The composition isn't particularly interesting. Also, you might want to have the dark portion of the painting go along above his head instead of dipping down. It's hard for me to say, since I don't know what your focal points are(due to the composition not being that strong), what could be changed. Like I said though, nice atmosphere.

Nice, soft values. Clothing folds really nicely.
The pic seems a little empty as a whole, I would've cast the king's shadow on the wall to make it a bit more interesting. The clothing could've gone bit more darker at the bottom to hint where the reflection starts.

Maybe you should define the floor more? |

I love the subtle coloring, you have a good understanding of color.
A very good pic! It's too late to change now, but one way the composition could have been more exciting is if the king was not in the exact middle. Also, you could have painted the room at an angle that would give the image a little more "depth".
But don't get me wrong, I think it's a great pic. Beautiful color, especially.

velous. i'd clap my hands but it'll be hard to type that way.
i know u wanted to put a reflection of the light on the floor so much but i don't think it belongs there. it should reflect lower in the painting, but that doesn't bother anyone really. and maybe a slightly stronger contrust between the floor and wall on the left.
besides that it' marvelous :-) i'll clap after i post this msg.

This is very nice, colors and everything. The face could seem a bit too blocky if you thougt it was a human, but I just immediately saw it as a duck, grim an gloomy. You know.. the chin is the beak. Was this intentional? Tai sitten meiklisen aivoissa on vaan vikaa. I must say I like this much more than those Kai Stenwall paintings.

thanks all! i only wish i would have planned this better because i like this as a whole but there are lot of stuff plain wrong and, yes, the composition stinks.
-
Rhomb: first one to notice some stenvallish features in this... i actually noticed the stenvallish colors and the mood(only one lonely figure in almost empty space) after i had "finished" this. i can assure you that it was not intentional but now that pointed it out... i can see the beak! strangest thing. but you don't like stenvall? did you check out the exhibition we had in summer? i enjoyed a lot of stuff he had there.

I like this very simple but effective, if anything I would maybe add a little more detail to the face. |

Well, I was little unclear there. Yes, I saw the exhibition and I must say I enjoyed very much. I like the settings, situations, sceneries, composition, humour and the technique in his paintings a lot. I just nowadays mostly don't like the way he paints the ducks, duckfaces.. they're ugly somehow, not visually appealing and flat. He has overused them. I also don't like the all over blurry look in some of his paintings(no clear focal point) especially when seen life-sized.
Your duck ( ) just looks much more interesting... in my opinion.
Here is a link to Stenvall's site for those who don't know what we are talkin about:

janne, this is a very nice and quiet piece. Great mood. Looks great how you make the colors fluid into each other. Do you blend with the airbrush or do you just blend with the camelhair brush set at lower oppacity???

boom: i use my own brushes but those are nothing special. i'd say they are closer to airbrush/pspaintbrush than camelhair. i have painted the blueish tones first and then painted the yellowish tones on top of that, using low opacities on brushes where the blending takes place... i hope this makes sense.
