I know what you're saying. However, my general philosophy is that as you hone your general drawing skills, your 'coloring' will automatically improve. Coloring is an extension to some degree of painting/drawing, not a discipline in and of itself...

I guess this is arguable, but its just my view on it.

I'm actually hoping the opposite. I've always struggled with coloring, so I'm hoping if I can get better at it my drawing will improve. In a way it has helped because I can spot several things in drawings now that I couldn't before. I just can't figure out why I can't correct my own drawings.

I guess my question is how much in general do you get paid for a magazine cover? I'm sure you can't say this piece specifically (there's probably some NDA I'm sure), but in general.

Don't go outta your way for that high-res image Chris. I actually messed around w/ it in photoshop and got it to a pretty high res w/out loosing too much quality (my girlfriend runs a print shop....i want her to print this image for me...it's just so damn cool...i'm a die hard FF fan).

Please, drop by again when you get the time. This time i'm bring my comics for you to sign...eheh =)

Yes, Ed is awesome. You should see his recent character designs for this female figure. So stop by!! And Chuck W. is here now too....i think you know him as well...

Anyways, great work....of course. People like you inspire me to get good....

Hey, can you give me your e-mail again....i won't misplace it this time =) [email protected]

ttyl..

I'll grab this one!

I've heard it's around $4,000-6,000, Im not sure how theyd do it for multiple artists, though

I've enjoyed seeing your print Just so long as you hang around, I suppose

LOL. Nowhere near that for us. Wait a second! ...Maybe I need to TALK TO JOE!!

FENG - Cools! Glad to hear it, let me know though.

"...to get good" - you ARE GOOD! I just wish you could post more of your stuff!

I'll drop you an email.

CAP - I really like hanging out here, but I really want to get better at drawing, rather than focusing on just coloring. Nothing wrong with coloring, just sort of the day job. I haven't seen you post in a while tho...

Oops,

Sorry about that Chris. I didn't mean to direct the joemad, thing at you. It was to reassert what you said and a little more, towards the people who initated the question. My bad. And the reason for the focus on inks, is becuase Townsend posts there so much I think.

I think the action of a colorist is an artform. It is simply part of a colaboration. A single artist doesn't have to work on something to make it art. Many people can be involved. And coloring is more then just filling in the shapes. If it wasn't, then everyone would color the same.

Chapel, Have you tried doing any pencils now that you've been coloring for awhile? Coloring sure hasn't helped mine. They've gone to hell, without the practice. Probably should do qestures, before coloring, too.

Sorry for bumoing this thread again. Just wanted to answer the questions posed...

SERA - Sorry, didn't mean to sound like I was jumping at you.

Shotgun - I believe you should be able to search the forum for that. I think "RINALDO" posted a tutorial a while back.

Did someone mention my name?

As for the Mad thing, we'd love to see more stuff like this in the gallery. I think Joe was trying to get us the other copies of his PSM covers without cover logos or text. Then there's all those BC images

Anyway Liquid was registered on the old forums, don't think he posted though? He can always re-register and reply to this thread maybe

I spell color 'colour' if you spell centre 'center'. And there's only four syllables in 'aluminum'.

Joachim: MaD isn't online a whole lot. He usually takes a couple days out of the month to reply to a few threads and catch up on his own forum. Doubt he would make the time to come over here.

Shotgun Shelly-
http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/Forum2/HTML/004912.html

I'm almost afraid to post this...hehe (hard to look at your old stuff with a positive eye). the explenation I give still holds up for me, but more in the technical sense of seperating the layers. I use any method that get's the job done these days in terms of actuialy rendering it, although the logic behind using a shading and cuts layer is sound.
flatting a page is probably one of the most boring things you can do.
someone posted this tut on another messageboard (sorry can't remember who) http://www.island.net/~shadgrap/flat1.html
I think it's pretty good. I sometimes paint in my flats with the pencil tool, but it all depends on what kind of image you have. I haven't flatted a lot of the more painted stuff I've done over pencils becase I like to play with the edges, but for B+W lineart flatting the way to go.
http://www.comiccolors.com probably says it better than what's in this thread.

oops...rambling. I just felt I need to add a bit to what is in that thread. sorry for cramming your thread up with this stuff Chris.
