Now, I absolutely demand that you download some of the 'Edward Scissor Hands' soundtrack when you look at this. Preferably the song 'Ice Dance'.
This said, this picture is inspired by those beautiful, wonderful summer nights. Warm winds blowing and the moon giving everything a silver glow. When your a kid, this effect is multiplied a hundred thousand fold and there is nothing left but your imagination.
The soundrack from edward scissor hands describes it perfectly.
Enjoy

Isric: Absolutely gorgeous. Lovely sense of motion too, with the starlets/firefly effect.
My only crit is the cloud lighting near the main character's face. I thought it was part of the character.
Aside from that, no crits. Love your style.

Wow, great mood in this piece. I can almost see it animated. Cool curly shape things! Yeah, the cloud tangent is the only problem I see. It almost looks like electricity shooting from his eyes, in which case he might be baby Raiden for all I know.

Great job! You're truly growing with every piece - about the best compliment I can think of giving to anyone.

I love work like this great looking style, Your painting method looks a bit like some of the Greg and Tim Hilderbrent brothers work.

I know exactly what you're talking about, although the weather isn't often like that here. But this fall there was a night like that, one in a million, a huge warm breeze, incredibly bright moon. The motion lights for the pool went on, awesome, like a floodlight highlighting the whitish undersides of the green leaves as the wind churned them. I sat in a lounge chair outside and drew and wrote. Very awesome. I only waste space writing about it because you've just reminded me of it. phew |

Thats nice. But I caution you to not rely too much on fx for setting the mood.
Try to set the mood without the fx and then the fx become just secondary.
Its good but dont work too much on fx unless you want to work for disney as an fx painter. =) |

As long as someone understands, I'm happy. Thats cool, thank you all.
Travis travis: That sounds incredible, and exactly the kind of feeling i wanted
Light: Um, I'm not sure which fx your talking about. The only fx i used was the screen gradiant fx for the slight moony haze fx. Not sure why you said fx so much either. fx.
But no, I understand what you mean. I've been slowly backing away from them. Everything from the underglows to the fireflies to the purple gleam was painted by me, the colors were selected like real paint, and yeah. Thanks for the advice though |

Your painting is absolutely gorgeous, on so many levels. The subtle use of the greens on the foreground and the purplish glow... so nice...
The curly things stand out so much that I can't stop looking at them, they are perfect. I can sort of imagine them swaying in the wind, just slightly uncurling and curling back again, just a bit.
The white spots... I'm not sure what they are but they take the painting to another level - it sort of just ties it all together somehow.
5 stars man!!! And... it looks like gouache.(sp?)

I think when Light said that the picture relies too much on fx, he didn't mean linear gradients and such, but the use of fireflies.

I thought I recognized a touch of Tim Burton in there (it's the curly things on the left). Then I read your words and it mentioned Edward Scissorhands.. Are you a Tim Burton fan in general Isric?
A lovely image all in all!

I am in love with everything Tim Burton does. EVERYTHING. He has acheived such a darkly beautiful, graceful, appealing style. I even heard Tim is making a Willy Wonka remake. *quiver with delight* |
