I'm not really satisfied with how this came out. The sketch was kinda cool, but when I got into detail, a lot of the "imaginative" feeling about it got lost. Well here it is.
Comments or crits are welcome.
Please comment on the design and leave the comments on small details, since this was a rather quick piece.
(I think i achieved the metallic look kinda good). Do you like the colors?

Impressive, very impressive. Except the head, its kinda boring next to the rest of the body. kind of like putting a paper bag over claudia schiffer's head.

Looks really nice.
Reminds me of the apple-eating guy a while back.

Heh. I'm on IRC trying to convice Snake *G* he's wrong as we speak. But here's the original in question, by Capt. Flush Garden:
Personally, I don't think it's something Henrik deserves to be castrated and shipped off to Canada for. Even if he was inspired by Flush's version, so what? It's a new take on it, and it turned out pretty cool. Thumbs up in my book.
Though I'm curious what Mr. Flush Garden has to say about this.

Sheesh, sure, it was probably inspired by the apple eating one... but the technique used, the shadowing, and the rest is really original.
The style is completely different.
But what do I know - I really suck at drawing (and imagening) robots so I shouldn't really be voicing my opinion :/
I like this though.

Oh yeah, I suppose I could give a crit, too. Two things stand out at me about this pic... First, the pose seems a bit forced, and it doesn't really convey any specific feeling... If anything, it looks like he's doing a very stiff dance. A more natural pose would set up the situation a lot better, and add just that much more depth to your pic.
The second thing is that the picture looks very busy. Lots of little bright spots all over the place where light is glinting off of his various and sundry components, and lots of dark areas where his wires and servos are in shadow, but very little broad definition of form beyond his shoulders and chest. A second, softer light source opposite the primary one would probably help a lot, though there are a number of different things you could probably do.
Anyway, good work on the details. ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/wink.gif) |

Hey cool down.
I did see the apple pic first (for a bout 10 seconds), and then I drew my own pic, but I didn't use his as a reference.
And besides, How original is a metal skelton anyway? T2 anybody?
So cool down. They don't even look the same! |

I love a good robot pic. Both Henrik's and Flushie's are among my favourite pics posted here over the last year. Good stuff.

Wow Henrik!
This is awesome...
One thing though; the slit (eyes) in the
head seems a bit of perspective-wise.
Fix that and it'll be perfect!

Good grief.
It's really quite sad, when an excellent piece of art comes along, and all some people can do is piss and moan, comparing it to other things, without being able to appreciate it for what it is in it's own right.
This is an awesome picture. From it's brilliantly lit metallic surfaces, to it's convincingly functional looking design, it simply oozes style and class.
One thing that does bug me a bit, is that the left arm, the one being held up for inspection, somehow looks sleeker, less mechanical, than the other.
Other than that, though, thumbs up all the way! ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |

SlightlyTwisted, after you made the comment about the left arm being sleeker, I looked at it again. Before you said anything, I had no idea what the robot was doing but after you said the arms were different and that he was inspecting it, it hit me. Perhaps it looks different for exactly the reason you said, it's a new design and he's inspecting it to see if it'll work out? Thanks, your comment really help me to interpret the picture better and make it a little less confusing for me.
TheMilkMan, I think it is "very very good" even if the head does "suck so bad". Learn some tact, even if you're correct, it comes off as being a little rude. |

I don't wanna read all that stuff up there. So sorry if my comments been said already. *shrug* I really like it. You have a good sense in technical design. Technical design to me is just wires and screws Anyway, the only thing that I cant tell what it is is the backpack thing. |

I kind of like the contrast in the simplicity of the head compared to the complexity of the body. Along with the other comments concerning the left arm, his left breast plate (pec) seems a bit small.
If this was quick, I'm doomed...
Good job! |

Fine work to be sure (and unless I'm mistaken we have entire threads about the same theme around here, so this is certainly above board)
I'm no pro at this, but does anyone else think the construction of the left arm is odd? Seems like the left forearm/elbow is too far forward, that if the figure is looking at his fist the forearm should be tilted away from the viewer but it looks like it's dead level or coming forwards
Could be just me. |

Tnaks for all the great suggestions and comments. Appreciate that.
The left arm was tilted too much, I agree with that. But when you figured he might be inspecting his newly constructed arm, I guess I can leave it as it is. (That was not the intention though, but it's a great idea).
When I think of it. The idea with the new arm is great. Maybe i should draw it even more different...
What I was trying to achieve was that this metal skeleton would be the inside of an outer shell. (Maybe a human).
I wanted it to look not very rusty, and not very shiny. Something in between with not too bright highlights. The head's simplicity compared to the rest of the body was intended. But maybe you're right. It might look a little too simple. Maybe I should add some more light to it, to make it look more shiny.
The sketch was made in one evening, and the refining was done in a few evenings after that. (Don't have time to do it at work)
So yes, this was a quite fast pic...
sometimes fast and simple (but still accurate) might be better than a picture with hundreds of hours of work put into it. |
