thanks to gecko for the subject. i wanted to practise making something other than heads and figures i have been doing lately. i'm not sure what to think of this... could you tell me? i think i'm doing more of these, so any pointers what to do better next time would be precious.

Maybe combind characters and backgrounds more too ? Btw, did you use any references or is it pure mindwork. either way, I like it a lot.

Remember that rocks don't sag over time-they wear and crumble, but never sag(referring to the steps here). I like the colors, and it looks like you're making good use of the lasso tool. Try to define the water lines better. Right now the water edge is rather ambiguous. The rocks and the lower part of the tree might be in shadow?

yep i should try to get some characters in there, too. no reference was used(i should have, it's quite plain now).

Wow thats really cool janne, i really dig the colors youve used, and the texture on the rock aswell.
I think the steps r cool, i like the idea of them being poorly built along time ago, therefore slanting.

looks good, but a door like that doesn't relly look like it's at home that close to the corner.. dunno, it just fights my architecural eye :)

can't wait to see a character-background combination =)

Great picture! I'd also like see some sort of character, even if it's just a little creature or something. This is just my personal preference, but since the trees and stones in the background create fairly detailed shapes, maybe the water could be rendered w/larger, less detailed shapes, for some design contrast.

Just my thoughts. Good work!

Janne, very nice.. first impressions was that its seemed very "loose" the reason for that is as the water and the near side is what you see first...untill u actully admire it.. then its very absorbing...and the detail in the stone is superb.. I loved the picture. please do some more of this soon... well done!!

janne: Wonderful atmosphere in this pic.

I really like the mist effect on the rocks and trees in the background.

My only crit is with regards to perspective (i.e. the building looks a bit uncertain).

Either way, a really nice pic.

I'd like to see some more like this.

Wow janne you really amaze me, ima lready in love with your portraits pics, and now im in love with your "scenery" pics. I think it is really awesome, the atmosphere is great, intriguous, a bit scary, the structure of the building shows it has been poorly constructed and your great colors and textures add toe this medieval/gothic feeling, i really love this piece

i dont think a human figure would add much to the pic, but i would love to see some crows or creepy animals, nothing fantasy, just a scary real animal, the feeling would be perfect i think

and for your future pics dotn say you are bad at backgrounds, it would be a lie

As for suggestions, next time I'd try to paint the sky with complete strokes, and paint the tree over the top, rather than filling in the nagative spaces between the branches.

I like the setting very much. Nice colors and a great feel of atmosphere in the background...

Though I must say that I like your 'detailed' and 'finished' pictures more ex. your 'mitatapahtuu' or the 'twistedcityscape' pics. And I have this feel that the water in the foreground is a bit too metallic and reflective to go along with the nice dusty feel that you have in the rest of the picture...
