After Francis started talking about doing "realistic" faces without any references, I got kind of inspired. And, one pic led to another, and to another one . Well though, they don't look too realistic, hehe, but atleast I've tried to a certain amount.

on, originally based on Francis's face:

and then I did this one,...not to cool though..

uhm, and this one.

-now I think it's time that I get a more interessting idea before I just start doodling around to see what happens.
But, I've brushed a bit cleaner thatn usual, don't you think, hehe ...or maybe just more blurry...I just found out about the airbrush, all time till now I've thought that the paintbrush and airbrush tool behaved the same....-don't kill me, I know I can be an idiot.

The second pic looks pretty realistic. Its the little details that seperate it from fantasy and realism. That last pic is great. That is probably my favorite of your stuff. Its funny that you are going to the airbrush.. I'm just starting to use the paintbrush tool.

Didn't know the "airbrush"... JEEZ That's actually pretty funny, but probably made you think more about your pics, than if you had that "crutch"...

I truly love #2 and #3 ... you're awesome, they're just sooooo nice! More, DO MORE!

the 3 pics are really great joachim

thus, the hair on the 3rd pic looks really weird if she s under water, maybe it could be more realistic and more appealing if it could float a bit ?

WOW! I love the underwater one! It's my absolute favorite!

I too am trying a piece that wants to be realistic with little reference. Do you have any suggestions that could help? Specifically regarding to texture, lighting and perhaps the 'outline' of the figure? It's a Savannah picture that I'm going to post soon. I've mentioned it in a couple of Captain's topics.

thanks ahead of time for any nuggets of wisdom you may have!

Great work Joachim. They look very good, and I especially like the third one... anatomy and face-wise... perhaps the monochromatic and low-intensity values help it being harder to decypher the value problems, but, I can't spot anything really bad about them.

These are really nicely done Joachim, I think I might try a few portraits without reference as well.

I especially like the lighting effect on the 1st one.

Nice work.

Number 2 is super! The lighting IS realistic.

I just discovered how to control the airbrush as well 2 weeks ago... after supporting myself totally on the paintbrush tool (which seems so very limited now).

Smooth gradients, here we go!!

As for the blurry edged face in he first pic... make yourself some custom sharp edged airbrushes in various sizes. My size 100/hardness 100 brush is a godsend in larger pictures!

Beautiful Joachim.

Number 1 and number 3 are my favorites, I think that's only my opinion, coz they're all very well done.

...Actually... number 3 is the best.

Very, very nice Joa. Have always loved your stuff, and this is no exception. However, I am disappointed you didn't mold your own face into these pictures, as you usually do

Yeah, the airbrush can be nice if used properly, just like the smudge tool (yes, it can ). I really like the 2nd and third pics; the 3rd is really a diversion from your usual style. Low contrast and toplit with diffuse light. One thing I noticed that really made the figure in the 3rd stand out, however, was the gloss of the skin (mainly the highlights on the breasts and shoulders). This lighting would be correct if she were out of the water and still wet, but underwater, light is diffused so much, you probably wouldn't get this glossiness. I dunno, just sorta bugged me. Great overall, although I still think the kids playing the city is still your best.

HEY!
The second one? You been hanging around with my wife?

Why I oughtta...

Great pics. Love the third one. I've been poking around with the airbrush lately, too but certainly with not these spectacular results.

Great job

Hey Joachim, it's been a while since I last talked to you. I like the direction you're taking with your art. The second pic is an interesting pose to take on, and I'm a sucker for the color scheme on the last one. I also liked the gas mask and 12 monkeys pictures you drew a while back (I'm looking at all the old posts). Much darker and more dramatic than most of your other work.

Great stuff! (but you really have to quit improving at such a rapid pace...it's making people like me jealous )

I agree with the guys...
The 3rd has a real good atmosphere (and a very sensual girl too)

The first caught Francis girl feeling absolutely well.

And the second is, by far the most realistic. Not only by the face, if not for the pose and 50s atmosphere it has.

Without a reference its whole different story....thats why I think you've done a brilliant job.
2nd is great and the 3rd awsome, due to the nice placement of light, its done really efficiantly.

thx you all, I'm happy you like them. Though, I don't know why, when I did these pics, even though these were for "practise" I still feel kinda empty when I finished each, since there was no certain consept idea/motif involved.

chapel, you mean that 3rd is you favorite from everything I've done so far ? Oh well, I guess I should take it as a compliment

mjmcchesney, I agree with you about the shading on shoulders and tits. Actually I knew that when I added it. So, who knows why I did it, I guess I still wanted it because I wanted make those breasts and such to shine .....but, just pretend those highlights are bubbles ok -maybe I'll change it.

i don't color much, but seems when colors are done it this style, it's to imitate painting, which is the first thing i thought, but I still like it.

Hey these are really nice Joachime.
I really like your painted style, very free
and not rigid. I think the lighting on the middle one is excellent, I like the others aswell but I do agree that they are a bit blurry, the level of sharpness on the middle one is much better. Overall great work!

Wow!

These are really, really cool.

I like the middle one the best because it has more contrast.

The bottom has a cool moody feel.

Great stuff.
