OK Peeps, here's the dig. Over the next few months I'm going to be scanning in Andrew Loomis' Figure Drawing For All Its Worth. If you don't know, this is THE definitive book on human figure drawing. However, it's rare and expensive and out of print. So for the good of all I'm scanning it. I have posted the first section. This will be the permanent address: http://www.antsin3d.com/loomis/
I am cross posting this so that no one will miss it and be left out. Enjoy, and feel free to offer feedback.

Anthony, the page #18 is the same as the #17...it is repeated, and the correct 18 missing. |

Thanks guys - I'll be fixing Page 18 tonight. All the pages will remain up there indefinately. After it's all finished I may want to pass the whole collection off to a larger art website that's faster, just to spread it even more. For now, though, it's a Sijun exclusive.

Illegal? Well, all copyrighted texts have a amount of time after the death of the author after which they become public domain. I'm not certain how long that period is, but I think it's about 60-70 years? Anyway, regardless, if Andrew Loomis' family want me to stop(assuming they inherited the rights to his work), and show me that they have legal right to do so, then I would. But they'd be finks to do something like that, wouldn't you say? ;]

On the issue of it being illegal, its not the Loomis family that you have to worry about, its the publisher of the book. The publisher is really the only one who will have any power to pursue litigation. I believe in a situation like this they can make a case against Anthony, the host of of Anthony's website and maybe this forum (but that one's a long shot).
Its true that artwork becomes public domain after 60years after the artists death but moves are afoot to lengthen that but once again doesn't apply here. My cousin is a lawyer who specializes in copyright infringement along with entertainment law and we've discussed this topic before and she says that the amount of cases in court for really small things like this is out of control. Anyway, just be careful.
By the way, buy the actual book if anyone here gets the chance cause its a great thing to have in ones library.
Late,

OK. It's 42 years since his death I believe, so we're 18 years off. I'm fine with it. Viking Press can lemme know if they have a problem. :]

I've got some spare time, I could type up the pages for easier legibility if anyone's interested.

I know. it's bizzare. I'm thinking of all kindsa whacky things to do with my time now, but right when I suddenly had time it was more of a... "hmm... I"m sure I had something else to do... " then it progressed to a realization "WHOA! I've got screw all to do for the next few days... wow. Now I can.... Can.... what the hell did I used to do back when I had time?"
