i just started getting in 3d, and this was something i tried out to experiment. tell me what u think. it was rendered in lightwave, and tweaked a bit in photoshop. i plan to take a nightcourse in 3d animation, but i gotta wait till next september, so i'm just messing around, and trying to learn as much as i can by myself for now. newayz, here's the pic.

Looks good - more painted than the 3d I'm used to. Might try adding more polys(or if it's a subpatch, just increase the render tesselation).

Try toning down the crumple in the bump map on that texture, or at least make it smaller, and mix in faint veins or something, to vary the type of texture....

I use lightwave 5.5, Dakkan. Mostly animate rather than do stills, though.

Did you use a displacement map image to make this? Looks good!

thx synj yea, i used a displacement map. this still was just to explore modeler a little... i got the book "inside lightwave 6", and have a lotta learning a practicing to do, but i wanna get into the animating as soon as i can. hehe, one thing i gotta get used to in 3d is rendering times for frames, but the result is worth it to me (that is, if i can make anything worthwhile, heh). hey, btw synj, i love u'r animations... how'd u get that cartoony effect? i really would like to know how that's done.
