this was done as a sort of beginning of semester diagnostic for a drawing class i'm taking.
i was hoping to get some serious crit on it, and areas i might want to work on (general drawing wise) etc.
done in pencil (first time i've touched 'em in years), original size is 18"x24", took about 3 hours and change.

awesome rendering, the only thing i see is that the joint where the thumb connects to the hand seems a bit off. like it is bent up too much. but it's pretty subjective and my crit could be off...
excellent drawing.

Getting no more replies doesn't have to mean it sucks. In this case it just means everythings been said by SporQ I'd say...
Good contrast, too! |

yep... the only thing that bugs me is the thumb ... the part where the first knuckle connects to the wrist ... looks too big/round ... good study though..

doh, first reply got eaten by the browser gods. lemme try this again.
i agree with the crits that there's something funky going on with the thumb. it kept seeming to me that the thumb was attached straight on, but studying the actual hand, it's attached properly. i believe my problem is with the knuckle joint - the angle of the joint wrinkles is a bit off and the outer edge needs to be changed... basically it needs to show a bit of foreshortening, with the thumb being slightly bent. it was giving me fits though. leaves some good room for improvement.
the paper got bent as i had to bring the piece to class rolled up in my messenger bag in the rain because i didn't have anything better. oops.
hopefully with the drawing class i'm taking i'll be able to get faster and better. i'm hoping to squeeze out some digital works to post soon in between classes. thanks for the comments. |

in my obinion, that big area between the thumb and the main body of the hand looks to flat right in the middle. I believe it's a bit more rounded there, atleast it is on my hand. |
