Okay, I just gave someone a 4, however, their average rating was about 4. Why then, do they only have 1 star highlighted??? |

because the grey star isn't a star, it's just a slot for a star you could have |

This whole rating system is plain unnecessary. Seeing how some people got rated I don't think it will be very valuable to decide whether someone's opinions are worth my time or not.
And I think it's also bad to have rated people since newcomers will not judge people's opinions on the same level, they will be biased because someone has more stars than someone else.
My opinion is turn the crap off. |

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
It's not the grey stars but the empty ones! Come on Dhab, switch the colours round!
Also, I doubt people know the criteria by which people are to rate others. Just because you can do a kick-ass pic doesn't mean that you are necessarily a great member of the forum. There are plenty of other places people can go for great art.

Somebody rated me a one star last I checked, which I didn't appreciate. Are they saying they think my art sucks, or that I have poor community spirit? I know what it's supposed to mean, but maybe not everybody does. Either way, the whole idea of letting members rate each other is like letting the inmates run the asylum. |

I think it sucks somewhat. If you piss someone off, they're just gunna rate you low!
"Ooh, he he! I'll have the last laugh! Lowest Rating! BWU HA HA HA The world is MINE! All MINE!! BWU HA HA HA!!"
see my point? |

Let's say we HAVE to keep the rating system, why don't we have two ratings? One for art, one for attitude? |

I currently consider rating everyone 1 star as a form of protest against this rating crap....would be neat to have a forum full of badly rated people.
<edit>
Oh yeah Lunatique care to elaborate why we would have to keep this system ? I still don't see how this could ever benefit the discussions here. Especially since everyone who has a bad rating can simply turn it off....

Since you can only rate each person once, Bugscratch, your little rating rampage won't really achieve anything...
If the ratings bother you so much, though, simply do what any smart person would do. Ignore them. They have absolutely no bearing on what people say, or how good/bad they draw, anyway... utterly meaningless things. They only effect the forum as long as people get caught up with them. Pay no attention to them, and they'll make no difference to the place. |

lunatique, your words amaze me with their wisdom.
- i think we don't need a five star rating system to figure out someone's attitude
- if people judged people by their five star ratings, they'd efficiently avoid using and perusing their personal opinions and views and whatnot and just go with the flow |

please lose the ratings. this forum is not some kind of popularity contest.
it's always the same: as soon as someone starts to collect and publish data on any kind of community, there's people who try to define themselves through these numbers. it happens in IRC. when there's a stat bot. it happens here with the # of posts (hi faustgfx, hi ian ). it happens with the ratings, too. now while i can see the fun in comparing # of posts, this totally arbitrary and pointless rating system will only poison the forum. if you are searching for especially loved or hated persons, just continue checking out only 20+ post threads, dammit
ps we're not slashdot either. i'm so glad about that. |

heh... Here I find myself with 2 stars. Guess I was living in a fantasy world afterall??
EDIT> If the whole rating system wasn't anonymous as it is now I would have had a great deal more respect for it!

Oh well I said I know you can turn it off...but that only implies that you got a bad rating that you don't want people to see to the uninformed stranger...
Anyone wanna join me on the "Rate everyone 1 star" frenzy ?
<edit>
Oh yeah BTW it's especially useless to identify bad people since any "bad guy" can simply reregister with a new name and start anew...

OK faust so there's already two of us. Considering not too many here have more than 5 or 6 votes that should definitely have an impact |
