I was very Inspired by Craigs Mullin's new piece when i did this one. I just loved the values on it.
I like doing hatching when painting, cause i think it creates an illusion of texture. Also tried not to have too much contrast. I will not work more on this, but please feel free to crit it!! I'll keep it in mind for next time!

Thanks,
Micke

Pretty neat micke. The eyes look a little off for some reason. The pupils maybe? Her right side of her face looks a little wide too. Could just be from the way you painted it. Some of the strokes cause a slight distortion in the shapes. Like the pink value on the nose gets narrow and fades off to a side almost making the nose look crooked. I could be totally wrong and picking really hard as usual.

(sigh) I feel like running away and crying in shame. This is very nice Micke. The lit side of the face seems wrong to me at the cheek level.. I love her Russian-slave-like eyes (?!) ...

i really love this micke, i dont notice anything that jumps out at me as 'wrong' or anything missplaced, it just looks real tight, its cool how the nose jumps out of the picture.

and your right on the hatching is great.

Nice image. Love the colour palette. First they insult you by thinking its a woman, then they say they thought it was a self portrait as well. What does that say about what they think of you? haha Just kidding...I couldn't resist. I didn't think it was a woman. He does kind of look stoned with those half opened eyes. yes, I understand he's looking down, but it still amused me; maybe that haze is.....

Great image.

Nice work .... Anyways the expresion is killer . Sometimes just capturing an emotion in an expresion is a sign of mastery among artists. You must be doing something right !!

Optical : what's with your signature man are you from the hood...I don't think there are any in canada are there? Do you work at Bioware?..sorry just curious ...

didn't read the whole thread (time, time, time :/), but I thought it was you, right? With a kind of Anorak or sth like that.

I like it very much - it's exactly the kind of style I'd like to apply to my recent work (another gasmask), but I think it's hardly possible :/.

I am not sure with the nose - perspective thing - can't explain it really but look from the noseholes (expr?) up to the tip and then compare with the nostrils! This tiny error gives the impression as if the bridge of the nose is drifting to his/your left.
But as I said I am not sure.

...hope that helped (if right)

AHh I hate you
It looks really really cool.

I think its the lips that makes he look like a her... and possibly the jawline & eyebrows.

I like the end of his nose. It doesn't have the crosshatching you always use.

Micke: Just got home now... and I was thinking about your pic on the way here...

In fact, there's nothing wrong with the pic. Fixing anything up to 'make it look more like a man' would only make it stick to a stereotype. It's great as it is. We don't all have the same traits, and definitely the picture is awesome... I can't see anything wrong with it as far as anatomy goes (of course, I don't know crap about anatomy and faces...so).

Very nice!

Put some old bi-plane goggles on top and it's look like a World War I ace pilot... got that threatening, aloof look.

*edit* Comparison photos of Micke and Jason Scott Lee pulled by Micke's request (Sorry Micke)

I love the palette you used in this Micke, and the cross hatching just adds that much more to a really great painting.

Looks nice micke!

Anything I would say falls far into the personal preference zone. They are so small I dont even have words for them.

Hmm....I think there is too much contrast and little secondary shapes that give too much information. Yea, simplify it more! Loose more edges.

Ex, cast shadow area on forehead under cap, lotsa bounce around the mouth. The cast shadow of the earflap on the side of the head could be modulated both in hardness top to bottom but also show the form of the cheek and jaw.

Keep on going on this one, but not more detail, less

The subtle changes of color in the face make it beautiful.
Compared to spooge's pic this doesn't have as much going on, ie. the fragile roses and lighting added a lot to the mood. Your pose also implies the guy (guy!!) being a little threatening, even if the eyes look very relaxed.
Very prominent (that might be the word im looking for) forehead.

The cross-hatching is a good idea, and distinctive of you. I might not have anything special I'm aiming for with this, it's more like I'm pointing out what i see.

The funny thing is I thought it was a pic of you at first micke, but since you said that you were inspired by spooge's pic I thought you might have been trying the same subject. So I just kinda assumed it was a "she".

Very nice, Micke. I too thought it was perhaps a self-portrait due to the structure of the mouth (wishing I had lips ). You said you wanted to keep it low contrast, but I'd be curious to see what the highlights would add if they were bumped up a bit.
Just a thought...

Great job!
