Hi!
This is my first post and I've read these forums for about half a year bla bla bla...
Anyways... My name is Jim Sjholm and I come from a little city in the very south of Sweden called Trelleborg. To avoid boring the hell out of you guys I think that I'd better just post my li'l painting and be quiet :) And if there's anything you'd like to know about me or my art, it's better if you ask... instead of having me writing down my whole my whole life story and stuff like that, which the most part of you aren't, in the slightest, interested in reading.
And before I show you my painting (I bet you're all really excited by now :)I want to thank Dhab and everyone else who makes this place what it is. It's just a shame that we don't see too many posts from those really awesome artist like spooge, Fred, Francis, Vebjorn and all the others who I didn't mention anymore... :(
Now.. here's the painting. It's just a quickie (took about 2.5 - 3 hours) and it's far from my best. It's made in Photoshop and the original res is something like 3000 pixels across. Feel free to critique.
I hope that I in a not too distant future can contribute to these forums with more of my art. I had a nasty harddrive crash a couple of weeks ago and I lost the last five months of my digital art, that I of some reason hadn't backed up, of course %|

Excellent landscape. The green and yellow really make it great, the reflection is also very beautiful. |

i almost like that.
reminds me alot of the scenery in mid-norway coast. at least where we drove through (stockholm to stryn, sweden to norway) there were alot of areas that looked quite similar. though it was early spring, it looked alot more colorless there then. gots a bunch of photos from there too. i liked it.

N8X: Thank you! Maybe I should go and get that app you were talking about.. sounds like something everybody should have. Loosing all of your work really sucks.
Samson & Friends, Dthind, Painted Melody: Sweet to hear that you like my work. It definately encourages me to keep doing more!
faustgfx: If faustgfx almost likes something it must be really good ;) I also have a lot of photos from Norway.. not that I've ever been there but the nature seems so be really awesome. The colors in my pic are a bit exaggerated but I wanted to create a kinda summery mood and I think that the overly saturated colors in the foreground helps adding to that.
Icannon: Thanx alot! I used an overlaying texture for this painting set to soft light and about 20% opacity. The texture it self is a scanned in piece of hard bread converted to greyscale. Works really well.
And yeah the sky is to soft. I totally agree with you... it was the first thing I painted, took about 15 seconds and then I must have forgotten about it or something. I was very tired. I finished this piece around 7,30am, New year's day. The bottom right corner looks kinda messy too.

Really great landscape, man!
Does anyone else have any vistas lying around? Seems these forums are getting a lot of chartacter art/portraits, but very little landscape stuff.
Would be nice to see a nature/landscape thread start up.

the only landscape i've really drawn, and even that is a version of a nice drawing Binke did.
binke's original, which still looks better..

Hi again and thank you for the replies!
levik: I think too that someone should start a landscape thread. It's a really great idea.
faustgfx: Sweet pic there. It looks a little Gigerish, which is neat. The foreground is terrificly shaded.
In case Binke reads this his pic is really sweet too. I like the mood. I'm a little suspicious about the shading in some places though. It lacks some of the highlights which the fire would generate.
I hope you don't mind me critting your pics.
Oh and by the way... if anybody feels like posting their landscape pics in this thread, now that faust has already begun, that's fine with me.. it'd be really cool since we don't get to see to many landscape pics here, as levik also pointed out.
Have a good night everybody!

Alloy: Thank you!
Wyatt: There's something about that landscape that I really dig! The colors are great. I just think that you could've stayed away from that smudge tool... at least a bit ;)
_____
Here's something that I found on an old backup CD. It's one of my first digitally painted pics.. I think it was done for one of those speed drawing threads back last summer but I never posted it. It took about 20 min to make and I used reference (which probably still is in that old thread). Feel free to crit or whatever.
And as I said earlier this thread is free for all of you to post your landscape/nature pics in.

did somebody say landscapes?? as in post yours here?? weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee... I'm usually hesitant to post my landscapes here because of how figure/mech oriented this forum is, but now that someone has given the green light, I guess I'll post again :P
Did this pic around august.. one of the first pics I did with my tablet, and one of the few that I've posted here. It got 0 comments the first time I posted it, so uh.. if any of you feel so kind, it'd be cool to hear some thoughts. It was done pretty quickly, and obviously wasn't meant to be very realistic, but anyway, here it is.
btw, great pic Jim S, I really like how it has that traditional painting look and feel to it, good stuff there. And your lighthouse pic is great too, looks a little smudgey in some places but that's to be expected with a speed pic. Show us more. |

Me again...
Striker: I kind of like that pic, even though it is a tad too sketchy in places, and I love the water except for one thing; some of the reflections (?) in the water are too blue, unless they are something glowing under the surface that is. For being one of your first digital pics it's sweet and keep on posting your stuff... Don't care about what other people say or think about your art - if you want to post a landscape to show off - just do it and if nobody's interested there's nothing much to do about it but then you have at least tried, right
And thanx for the comments about my pic!
_____
Tomorrow me and my family are going on vactaion to Lanzarote for one week... just thought I'd let you know in case someone cares... so unless I find some little nice Internet cafe somewhere you won't see me here again before next friday.
/Jim
