tf2 has been delayed due to the fact that valve has moved all resources to getting half life to the dreamcast. When that is done, tf2 will be completed, i predict sometime in 2001.

(it was originally supposed to be released in 97 for Quake!!!)

well i know that.... the question is why the hell tf2 is not going to be on e3?? the only answer i can came up with is that there is nothing to show... i'm pretty sure that such games as Hitman or Halo are gonna be there... none of them are near completion, but they are still there (i hope so)....

In all honesty : TF2 coming out in 2001 is pure bullshit. Not just bullshit as in your average pile of cattle-dung but BULLSHIT in the biggest sense of the word, stacking up beyond the roof of your house.

Why? 'Cause in 2001 the TF2 as we know it will be obsolete. It's based on the HL engine for chrissakes! The gaming industry moves at an incredible pace, and if Valve wants to release Tf2 in 2001, they better start building it from scratch up again, NOW.

Delayed? NO. Cancelled/Scrapped? Sure. Why not? They can try again in 2001 when everyone has a 1GHZ, 2 graphical CPU's and a 20mbit VDSL line. It'll be a much better game.

Besides, from a marketing POV giving dreamcasting HL priority over Tf2 is pure suicide. HL has allready sold in incredible quantities and the whole world is waiting for TF2. HL for dreamcast can wait, especially since the dreamcast market is still relatively small, while the market for online-only games is BOOMing like a mofo.

Dont worry peeps, unless the folks at Valve are suicidal, Tf2 will be out soon enough..

/Spitfire

P.s. Sierra will make sure TF2 comes out quickly - publishers are relentless.

I don't think anyone really cares anymore. Personally, when i heard of TF2 i was excited that my pants almost fell off, then a year later it kinda just went away, i don't even want the game anymore... (tho my pants are prolly gonna fall off as soon as it comes out but anyways), TF2 is just a project crawling in the dark, preparing its final move (like in StarCraft, whoever played it, it sometimes takes the whole game to prepare one army to kill yer opponent, which can last 2-3 hours).

They are aiming for profection and a new era but by the time its out its hardly going to be accepted as a g00d game with all the other g00d games that are gonna be out (I really wanna see Ultima Online 2! hehe).

But like you said... if they waste anymore time, then its pointless

Spitfire, you are forgetting that valve hired TWO 3d programers... that means only one thing... engine is being rebuild or optimized... which means that the game is not going to be out "soon enough" because sane people usualy don't hire with salaries over 100k a year just to make final touches...

2? that's not too much. Considering some of the revolutionary feaures built into the engine... And i'd like to point out that ID software hired a Dutch kid just a few months before Q3A came out, to TOTALLY redo their AI system. In a few months...

Trust me, TF2 *will* be out soon, they just cant afford to keep it back any longer (if sierra would allow that at all! Deadlines!).

/Spitfire

P.S. I plucked this off the Sierra site : "Sierra Studios and Valve LLC today announced at the Milia trade show in Cannes, France that Half-Life will come to the Sega Dreamcast in summer 2000. The Dreamcast version is under development by Northern California-based Captivation Digital Laboratories in conjunction with Gearbox Software and Valve."

Valve isnt even full time working on porting HL Why? you guessed it... TF2 needs to be finished.

just think logically... if the game is coming out soon, E3 is the best advertising for a game... almost every single person who plays games is gonna read about E3... the only answer i can came up with is that they have nothing to show... probably because of the engine rebuilding... another answer could be marketing guys are just idiots.. i would consider the second answer (especially after they canceled Babylon 5, fucking idiots)....

True, never underestimate the utter retardedness of marketing people.

But still, werent they at last years E3? Maybe they want to silently add the sickest features... i dont know. I just dont think Valve is afraid of loosing publicity by not going to the e3, EVERYONE wants Tf2

I really hope that's its the engine rebuild that's keeping them from e3. I'm pretty sure that valve is smart enough to figure out that this thing wont sell as well using the hl engine at that release date. I'm really counting on it to come out before 2001.

this is not the point. the point is how much their PR policy sucks. How many of you heard of such game as Max Payne before the last PC Gamer?? Not many I'd say. But i've been following it for the last 3 years. Developers dont say a word about the game, but they always talk to fans (at least one of them). Declining (but not cofirming) rumors and stuff.

Have you heard any shit from Valve? No! They won't even tell on official Sierra forum about new previews in the magazines. Did somebody bothered explaining why the fuck TF2 is not gonna be on E3?? hell no! why? because either PR person is complete idot there or the one who is responsible for preventing others to talk is.

If they are so "dedicated" to the fan community, why won't they show that dedication and speak out from time to time. No info about the game, fine! But at least tell us on the progress of the game! This isn't classified info. Why the fuck would you pay a PR person salary?? to play minesweeper 99.9% of the time???

anyway, i say fuck TF2... i fed up with it... my games of choice is Tribes2! yeah! =)

Hey guys.. about these delays... its normal for a game to have delays!
Does C&C Tiberian Sun, Diablo 2 brings anything to your mind?
these games were bouth delayed.. diablo2 isnt even out yet!
about tf2.. i think the ppl at Valve know what they are doing.. (didnt they knew when they made half-life?)
they are problably adding more stuff while they are having more ideas for the game... specially when they are problably gonna have big competitors for the future!
Like C&C Renegade (that supports 256 players at the same time on one level)
not to mention Quake3, UT, Tribes2.. etc etc!
Its actually fun when a game comes out and we dont know almost anything about it!
I bet its Valves policy not giving too much info about tf2!
Well.. a very good place to check for information on Tf2 is this site http://www.planetfortress.com/
everything i know about the game comes from there.. so whos is in total darkness.. go there and you will have an idea about the game!
Now.. about the game not showing up on E3.. i actually dont care cause im in Portugal... so ill just let you guys fight over that matter!
