I received a comment in my Elfwood gallery that has me perplexed (and highly amused, as a matter of fact).

“Your personality as far as I've seen: Hate it. Your artwork: Love it. That's all.”
(if you want to see the actual comment, just go toElfwood - it’s near the bottom)

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not upset or anything, mostly just curious.

First off: Why go to an art gallery and comment on the personality of someone you do not know?
Second: What is it that I have done - or that I do at a regular basis - that makes me a bad person?
Third: Maybe I actually AM a bitch... hmm... is there really anything wrong with that?

Obnoxious would mean something like "very objectionable", "hateful", "odious"... stuff like that =)

Well, you already know my thoughts on this particular comment...

But I just thought I'd add the people are jerks. Especially anonymous people online. I don't know what or why it is, but somehow the simple act of sitting behind a computer at an unknown location somewhere on the globe will transform an otherwise normal person into a total arsehole, complete with stains and dubious odour.

Enayla: I think that sometimes people can use the anonymity of forums etc. to voice their own personal prejudices that they wouldn't really say to someone face to face. Also, someone said recently that the thing about forums and feedback comments is that it's often hard to interpret what people are actually thinking. Smilies do that to an extent, however, even then you can't really be sure in what way the comment is supposed to be interpreted. I've had people tell me that I come across as perhaps a bit cocky and arrogant, and, yes perhaps I'm a bit like that when I talk to people but it certainly isn't intentional.

One of the things that you have to bear in mind is that people like yourself, spooge, loki and others tend to get alot of posts and replies to their threads and I think perhaps there's a tendency to be less grateful for comments that are made and perhaps it's easy to be misunderstood. With regard to the guy who made that comment on elfwood, I'd just say that he comes across as totally jealous and the anonymity of the feedback comment allows him to have a dig at you in safety. I wouldn't worry about it.

You're probably right, Ceenda.

I've always found it so cowardly, though. Cowardly that people would become rude and vicious just because they never have to face the person in question.

I treat people online as I treat them in real life. And if I feel a need to insult someone - I would most likely send the person in question an email (explaining WHY I feel like I do in the first place), not just give a short comment like that. I mean... to just spit out that you hate someone's personality, it's not exactly constructive criticism. If someone doesn't like me, I'd rather know why, actually. If I don't like someone, I will most likely keep it to myself since it will do neither me, nor the person in question, any good to throw insults.

As to getting a lot of comments... yes, you're probably right about that as well. Maybe I do come off as a bit arrogant.

Another problem is the fact that while I let people use my pictures on their websites (providing they link back to me) I will not let them use the pictures for roleplaying games. It just plain /disturbs/ me to imagine some of my pictures attached to horrid storytelling and appalling plots. I claim the right to decide what's done with my images. I get a lot of mails about me being a bitch because I won't let people use the pictures like they'd want to... well... I don't know...

I'd rather be a bitch than have someone playing a character called "Lord Darklord" and use one of my images for the character... posting things like "Lord Darklrd walks up to her and bows and says "you are a very pretty lady I think I want to kiss you" and then he kisses her cheek and bla bla bla"...

Ick ;)

Reading a persons personality like an open book through a wwwboard? Freud would be proud...

Oh, and in answer to your question Enayla; nope, not really from what I can tell.
But then again, I don't actually know you, so who knows what kind of queen-bitch-of-the-universe you might actually be?

Perhaps that person has seen you from Sijun, or they know you in real life but are keeping it a secret. Or based on your personal description in Elfwood (which I haven't read), they can make some personality judegement, which in IMO isn't true!

I think your personality is as good as your artwork. And your artwork is amazing.

Isn't communication ment to be something ridiculous like 80% non verbal? In which case there is no way a person can properly know you over the net. You dont know this person either so why should you give these opinions any value anyway? I enjoy posting here because we can plan our responses, its almost like i always have time to say exactly what i would like. This is in no sense the reality of my normal conversation.

Come on Enayla! Don't waste your *valious* time thinking of stupid people who cannot see the log in their own eye.

Don't you remember that woman that wrote Craig Mullins saying in Spanish: "Me cago en tu puta madre, aunque dibujas muy bien" (which translated literally means "I crap in your fucking mother, though you draw really well"-good luck Craig doesn't know Spanish!).

So, as you've said no one can know you through a 17'' monitor. Let your awesome pics talk about your personality (are you really that sooooffft? ), and let the ratings we are giving you talk by themselves.

hehehe. I guess you haven't seen the dark side of the loth much cause you're such a pro and awesome artist. there are always morons on the lurk... looks like one managed to keep their eyes off your art long enough to say something stupid.

only thing I could think is that they might take your bio as a little impersonal because it says nothing about you and has a bunch of rules...

Enayla,

My GF is a powerful woman who knows exactly what she wants. It's been my experience that when a woman with any amount of conviction or an original thought in her head will occasionally be labled a bitch. It's not really an accurate reflection of you as a person, but rather _their_ inability to cope with you.

Reason I only took this even slightly personal was that there was a flame some months back where I got a lot of stupid hate mails and "you should die, bitch" messages. That one had to do with me asking people to take down pictures they were using without authorisation.

Seriously... I know I shouldn't care. I know. I just can't see the point of someone saying that I have a bad personality - isn't that the most stupid insult of ALL insults, given the fact that the person doesn't know me?

At any rate... thanks everyone =)

Oh - and the reason to all the rules put up on my elfwood page... well... thing is that for a while, I got easily five emails each day from people asking all those questions. So I got sick and put up the list ;) Maybe I should add a quick description "Well, err, my name is Linda... and I'm... err... an artist... I've, um, drawn since I was a little girl... and ah... ah... I like fantasy..."

Or something ;D

(oOooOooh a fanclub! Never had one of those ;D ... heheh... )

Yeah, you're just AWFUL. I mean...GEEZE. What an ATTITUDE!

...

No, of course not! Damn! You're an angel. You always keep your dignity, no matter what, and you don't give in to mindless flaming and stupid arguments. You're the sort of person everyone has to respect, even if they're dying of jealousy and really don't WANT to....

Elfwood is my prime source of hate mail, too, and I've just learned to take none of it seriously. Just this month, I've been told I have no soul, I'm a sick SOB, and I am entirely without originality. Oh, yeah, and I steal pictures from Royo, Vallejo, and Giger, as well. *G*

99 out of 100 people love you, Enayla. Don't pay attention to those occasional idiots who just have to say something rude. It's jealousy that spurs them, more often than not, or some weird desire to call attention to themselves. You haven't done anything wrong. If you come across as being angry because of all the people who nicked your work, that's not a sign of bitchiness, but well-founded annoyance.

Don't let it get to you! You're such a nice person, I'd hate to think of you worrying over idiots like that!

I was just about to post that A.Buttle was probably upset that you've never drawn any mullets, then I looked up and saw the original post...

Envy is my guess and Pat speaks the truth. My wife is a 6'1", athelete, manager in the women's clothing industry and the fragile egos she has to deal with and crap she has to put up with... Yeesh.

Giggles and all, Enayla, keep it up.

p.s. A.Buttle, if you're reading, I ran across a doozy this past weekend. Picture & post time.

Cheers all.
