Thanks!
After sleeping on this and looking at it with a clear mind and fresh eye, it's a bit plain in terms of lighting. It lacks the real dynamics of light and it's relationship to the surfaces; I went and looked at a bunch of Spooge's stuff and then back at what I was doing (not that I am trying to directly emulate); mine is pretty plain and boring - the overall staging is not present or brought out.
But hey - it is a work in progress. Let me see how far I can take it (or ruin it - good thing there's the Undo command). |

right off the bat i'd recommend pushing the contrast more... as it is, it seems, imho, way too washed out...
nice work on defining the forms, though... that aspect definitely reads very clearly... i think the lower third of the head could use a little touching up, though... the upper lip area, in particular, seems a little off... also, the way his neck connects to his chin seems odd, though i could be wrong...
keep it up, and hope to see more progress on this... ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

LoTekk - thanks for your comments! I believe you're correct. It's often a good thing to have external reviews, because it's easy to miss obvious things when focusing on others. Thanks! |

I agree, the contrast of the shading could be emphasized more. Try putting in some darker reds in there to get away from that more yellow look. The upper lip looks too squashed on the sides and too pushed up in the middle. Keep working on it though it's lookin good ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

Thanks to all for the feedback! The figure is no one in particular - just something I kind of started playing with. Who knows where it'll go; I was thinking of a nebula type of background - something profound and with a progressive outlook to space exploration, but do effectively do that I will have to scrap the existing stoic pose for something a bit more reflective of my intentions.
We shall see...
Thanks again everyone |
