Hello. I've had a tablet for a couple months now and its just about replaced my mouse for all i do. I was just using it for doing cartoons in flash until I stumbled across this site and I was like, holy cow, I needs to try this! So here are the first things I've done in photoshop 5.0 LE. This eye I drew without any references, cuz I've drawn lots of eyes before and know what I think looks good, and how light plays on the iris.
This is my 'comic book' char. Ricki Suavo. This is definately just a rough sketch. The gun and hand are not at the same angle, plane? something.
I'm welcome to whatever you have to say.

Hello Stewpad. I am new here as well. Pretty much in the same position as you
Nice work on the eye there. I think it would be nicer if you made the skin a little darker around it, to bring out the whiteness of the eye out, and push those reflections out. Perhaps a smaller brush to do those eye lashes, as they look a little clumpy right now.
The blue in her eye is great though!
With the sketch - it is a little disjointed. Things are pointing in the wrong directions... Try and be a little more loose and make a sketchy layout before you start with details....
But anyway, you got talent there, and hopefully this forum will help you as much as it has helped me so far.

The problem with the gun is that the hand and arm tell us that it is roughly parallel with the viewing plane, yet we are able to see enough of the bottom and end of the gun to think the gun is pointing out of the page. I erased most of the bottom and end of the gun (and rotated the silencer a little), and I think the result is a bit more believeable:

It looks pretty good. Some improvements might be:
- A fold in the upper eye lid (assuming the person is not asian).
- Less regularly spaced lashes.
- Lower lashes coming from the outside edge of the lid, rather than the inside.
- A tear duct.
- A less saturated skin tone.
Here's a reference, courtesy of Google:
