Hello people! :P

Ive been browsing these forums for a year now and got registered not long ago.
Yesterday I got my Intous2 A5 tablet and thought I give it a try.

But however I very much Suck at this moment. I dont know the techniques at all.
I see myself good on paper and pencil but with my wacom I feel like a total newbie.

Ive tried different approaches to coloring but I cant seem to get the hang of it. Ive seen many different techs of coloring. Ive seen the fast sketchy ones and the very detailed ones. All are very nice and I would like to even if not be as good but at least learn the basis of these techniques.

Thing is I have a lot of good stuff in my head but I dont have the experience nor the knowledge to create it.

Below is a attempt to color a outline from a screenshot from a game called Anarchy Online. I did this becuse I wanted to concentrate on the coloring.

I know mine needs VERY much work and improvement. Maybe I started of completely wrong but thats why I post - I need help.
So if you could just give me some tips or thoughts on how to color it. Everything is welcome.

I also have difficulties to create an something by starting with the colors. Ive seen so good images that are almost just made by a couple of strokes. Mosty I start with the outlines because I think that is easier but still i would like to know tips on how to start with the colors. ( I hope u understand what I mean if not then I try to be more specific )

This is my outline. ( BTW is it good to outline in white? I thought I only use these for guidence then remove them )

And this is my attempt. Please try to show me how YOU would color it and maybe how u would do.

Bah sorry about this long post but I thought if I could get help at all - this would be the place. Hope I didnt bore you out

Cheers

I think you should try this tutorial from dhabih.
It will help you much if you hadn't read it already.

Okay just some tipps which I think are useful:

- I don't know in what resolution you worked, but the picture is definitly too small, you can't see anything, try to work in higher resolutions so that you can resize it later to, for example, the half size.

- http://www.sumaleth.com/links/la.php?cat=Tutorials&t2=All%20Tutorials&page=1 -> lot of links to tutorials

- there are different ways how to colorize a picture, you have to find your one (I also have to), so don't be depressed if your first pic is not what you wanted it to be

and (that's most important, it was told me about 3 days ago) always have fun doing art. If you force yourself you won't achieve what you want.

wide post

1) swooshd on some nice bg colour
2) blocked in the figureand added some general lighting
3) added some strong highlites and started defining the shadows
4) slapped on a quick bg and refined the figure a bit more
5) fixed some mistakes and added some more light and shadows
6) messed up the picture with my notoriously dodgy finishing touches

Well guys I went through all your feedback and I think it helped very much. I now know things that are basic and I wouldnt been able to start without. Guess a steady base is the most important.

I tried to do a zak-Version but I didnt copy it I just looked at it when I had some major difficulties.

Well here it is its not finished though I think its like stage 2 of zaks series.

Hope u guys can continue helping me. I really appreciate it I admire you guys.
