Not a paying project, but a fun one.
I might try some moonlit scenes next, maybe a closeup of an arab warrior, not sure. c&c & overpaints welcome, or direct me towards reference.

Very nice, I love desert sceneries. Cant give much critique though, as Im not good at landscapes, to me it looks just right.

Cool.
But I don't like the colors.
The lilac doesn't suit IHMO.
Anyway, nice dune.

I like it! The colors look a little saturated, but in this case it adds a visual distortion that feels like heat. Reminds me of the old "Dune" novel covers.

looks great mr. stahlberg. mmmm, looks like natural media

anyway, I just wanted to point out that I'm very distracted by the purple at the front. not sure if thats where youw atned the focus, but im not definitely looking at the charging warriors (if tahts what they are)

hrmmmm.. maybe try darkening the dust cloud behind them. not exactly sure how dusts work ... kind of thinking of it in photoshop terms ... like 2 layers of the same color (say 60% opacity) will produce a darker color

Anyway, might be a littl emore itneresting if you introduce that lone rider up in front. the scout

I think that the lilac would be very appropriate if the sky looked more like a sunset.

Here is a quickie overpaint. I've also tried to paint some desert scenes and I always failed. It's so hard to paint good relationship between warm and cold colors in this kind of scenes. At least for me. There's maybe somethings I did over do in my version but maybe it still helps you a little bit.

I think it looks good, though the foremost purple area is a bit strong- both in edge and saturation. Here's a link to some desert reference, you have to scroll down a bit though.

Why are there typically such dynamic colours in the desert light-/shadowplay? I dunno, though I think it's because there is little bouncing light, so what is in nearby shadow will almost exclusively contain diretly unlit sky colours (overlaid the yellow sand, of course), while what is in light will have a powerful sunlit orangy yellow. Maybe your shadows are too red? Also, the purple shadow that you have rendered might need a much clear edge/area. It probably should not be softened much by reflected light, because it does not have a nearby sand dune bouncing light into it. It is a cast shadow, no?

Anyway, that's how I see it , though I like the vivid colours as is. Oh, how about a little dust flying off the nearby edge? Just for visual interest's sake.

(and Kuala Lumpur?)

Thanks, great feedback (and thanks for the desert link Torstein). Here's another where I think I fixed what you mentioned, plus some other changes. I also add one more, a night scene.

Yes, I've moved to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Nice place, I like it better than Austin, Texas in many ways.

*drools*

If I may, though, I think there is a little something with the night scene. It's hard to tell whether the part on the left is sea, or desert.
Maybe a less perfectly flat horizon ?

Beautiful anyway, I think your first version of the day scene was very nice too.
Maybe there was a tad bit too much blue in the front dune (you would get this kind of blueish tone when it gets darker, just what you did in your rework).
But personally I love the colours.

Cool progress bro, I just feel it doesnt well.. feel like an african desert anymore not sure if u intended it to be I lived in africa for like 6 years by the way Loved it there in fact. Oh and the second painting is interesting although the light is EXTREMELY powerful makes me feel like its a projector or something i dunno or maybe a comet falling something TOO bright in the sky
