whoa, macross rocks!
about the cloud, I think usually clouds have both sharper and softer edges, the sharp edge is mostly the outline and top, the inside shading and bottom are usually softer. use different brushes sizes to define those. does that makes sense? ;p |

I'm no expert, and I realize that this is a WIP, but I don't think the problem is in the clouds. I think it's in the sky. You were probably going to do this anyway, but perhaps brushing in the sky over the gradient in a similar style would add to the clouds' realistic appearance. If you are really going for a cloudy look though, my only suggestion is to use a harder, more opaque brush. (again, I'm no expert, this are all just my opinions). It looks good so far, I can't wait to see it finished! |

About the clouds, Clouds are positioned above the horizon all around us, the clouds farther away are blurred the clouds closer to us are sharper, not sharp cause clouds are made out of condence (warm and cold air) so they dont really have forms and therefore can never be edged, i should rather shade them or airbrush them, a good cloud technique is the following : take some graphite pouder or scrap some of a pencil with sand paper then take a piece of cloth rub it out on the paper, now take a erazor like a kneeded one and draw your cloud highlights, look at real clouds for reference, this way you can make realistic like clouds.

Actually.. that's not the sky...The blue is a downward look at the ocean. |
