hello you talented guys and gals...
I'm painting a castle for a book...
I have a doubt as to what kind of wheather/clouds/light/mood it should be... now it's kind of a morning light feel...which I like... but if any of you have any ideas how to improve the mood and feel... or an idea to another kind of lightsetting it would be interesting.
thanks in advance!

But I see it and it looks good.
I love the lightning like it is.
You also could paint the picture by sundown.
Would be a great atmosphere.
The perspective is very impressing and I like the design of the castle.
good jop

Well I already did an improvement I think...
Now the castle sudently got real instead of vague and transparent like the first version... I think I'll stick to this... maybe... :-)
Sundown... yeah... but all castles are painted at sundown aren't they? ;-)
Comments still very welcome.. I'll post when the real paintings done!
cheers

You're doing a great job. I love both pics...I didn't see the dock thingy in the first one and i thought it was a city in the clouds The second one looks awsome..:-) |

Hehe, my first thoughts exactly
I liked the first look better, it looked a lot like a castle in the clouds floating freely and all that - really cool.
But of course the question is what look you are actually trying to achive.
If you're going for the more colorful look I'd give more oranges and yellows to the clouds.
Can't wait for the finish

Mhh, many good things in #1, i love the perspective and setting. But I like the clouds in #2, having a vocal point in the middle by the clouds floating all together above the castle. The color scheme in #2 is a little distorted, I liked the diffuse lighting in #1 more. A little more blue on the castle would be nice for #3! a little blur (0,5 - 1,0 in photoshop) on the background (the sky) would fit very well, too!
Again, luvit! |

Greetings eBoy,
Mine as well toss my 2 cents worth in as well, hehe...
I have to agree with Jabo about the clouds in the 2nd picture. They add a better demension to the piece.
I really like the 3 point perspective your using on the castle but something was nagging me about the design yesterday when I looked at it and it just hit me what it was just now. The walk way that you have coming from the castle to the view makes the piece look to extreme.
I also find it adds too much weight to the bottom of the picture. I think you may get a better result if the walkway was more narrow.
I hope you dont mind but I did a little paint over to show what I mean.
Can I ask you why you choose to have the little gaurd house in front of the castle a one point perspective? I ask this cause when doing 3 point the general rule is to have all vertical lines going to the 3pt vp.
Good work eboy, your website and your work is very impressive.
- Shawn

I'm going to have to disagree with Hellspawn.
You lose the sense of grandeur with his paintover. It doesn't pull the viewer into the composition as much, and it adds imbalance. No offence to Hellspawn of course. It's just my own useless opinion.
I love everything about the piece. I'm not one to gush compliments when they aren't due. They are in this case.
Great work! |

Mhh, I thought of a compromise:
(Hope you don't mind, eboy)
I think this variant wouldn't dislead the viewers course throughout the picture but would get a little more attention to the bottom, which is a thing I didn't notice until I saw hellspawns post... |

I'm not sure about this but sense you're under the horizon point and the castle leveling goes over you, you shouldn't have a bridge with buildings parallel to the bridge, but they should be parallel to the castle correct?. Otherwise the castle looks like it's leaning backwards, which it does right now.
*also that mgiht put into question whether or not you really want a bridge

Hey eBoy I was thinking that I like the clouds on the first pict the best it made the structures look like it exstended past teh clouds the curved clouds of your second most serve to make it shorter and not as powerful
I also dig the first bridge inviting me in

Hi all and thanks for the replys and good crits/paintovers.
First of all... the perspective on the little house in the foreground was a stoopid mistake... I've corrected that now.
-thanks for correcting it!
It was a tough one to decide what to do with the bridge, but I decided to keep it big, so it feels like you are standing on it, ready to enter :-)
I also kept the sky formation and the colors on the castle... I think it works out pretty good now. (maybe except for the water... dunno)
well... this is the (semi) final piece:
and this is another one for the same project I did last night:
both pictures are for THIS BOOK >> http://www.lime.dk/board/navle_preview.jpg
Cheers.
