Hello~
I'm new here, and I don't really belong here with all the professionals, but we'll see ^^
Please critique, and be harsh! ^_^

i really like the face man. its very good. the body proportions arent right thou. legs seem a bit short, especvially since its an anime figure. the folds make her dress looks very stiff, like a glass vase maybe, practise doing folds. like the haircolour.

Hello~
Thanks for your comments! Do you have any specific suggestions for making the folds look more cloth-like, though? ^^
Thanks again!
Oh!
zak: I just wanted to say that I was looking around your site, and your "tragic lifestlye" pic is awesome! ^^ Reminds me of that Magna Carta wallpaper "Affinity"....

well, heres a quick overview on folds, its not the best, but itll do i guess. what you have to take into account is gravity and wind. always remember those two, and it should look fine

you still have to lengthen the legs a bit, shes too short ^__^. also try flattening out the ground she's standing on a bit, it looks a tad too steep for her shoes ^__^. |

K, I lengthened the legs, so she's about 7 heads tall now. Do you think it looks better? (Still haven't done the dress or the ground) |

i see it now, for some reason, the legs still look a bit short, but maybe thats just because of the dress. do the dress, and stretch it again afterwards if you need to. bamboo looks nice |

I agree with Zak about the length of her body. The material looks a bit wrong around her bum, too.
If you are using Photoshop, try merging all the layers that she is on and then stretch the lower half of her body. If you don't mind, I would like to try an over-paint and post it later?
-------------------------------------------
Well here it is. Hope this helps. I didn't spend too long changing you picture (I didn't want to personalize it) so just a few pointers to make-
1. Her legs are now longer.
2. I smoothened out the material around her bum. This also makes her look more effeminate.
3. I cast strong shadows from the bamboo.
4. To help give some height to the picture, I added a faint blue edge to the rock she is standing on.
5. Finally, I thought those hills in the background needed to look a bit more rugged.
Again, I hope this is what you were looking for. If not, never mind.

Guy-Incognito: Thank you for the paintover! The stuff on the mountains really helped a lot, and I see now that her legs needed to be stretched even more ^^ Wouldn't there be some folds near her "bum" ^^ though? I really don't know, but wouldn't gravity still be pulling down there? Well, anyhoo, thanks for your help!

I'm afraid it all looks a bit flat. There's little to suggest her shoulder sticks out from her neck or her toga goes around her body. There is shading on everything, but the light source (even though it can be diffused through thick clouds) is coming from different directions, depending on what you look at and there don't seem to be any cast shadows (with the notable exception of the little pool of darkness beneath her feet).
The pose and composition are not really interesting at all. She is set dead center and is in a stiff profile.
Our eye level seems to be above her head, but the positioning of her feet doesn't lend to our proximity to her (they should be more radically displaced to show proper perspective). Also, the bambo leads us to believe we're looking up at it.
I'm afraid her right hand is in a terribly unnatural position and the relative finger lengths are giving me a lot of anxiety. The left hand, on the other hand (sorry, couldn't resist), has four fingers of the exact same length with almost no supporting forearm (it just disappears once it reaches her breast). And the sword seems to be resting extraordinarily low, almost in her shoulder.
The light streaming through the bambo gives a nice feeling, however. |

Well, no there shouldn't be any folds around her gluteus. Too many folds take away the feeling that the fabric is actually resting on something. You got it right when drawing her breast.
Despite Dogfood leveling some true points, I think people around here can be a little too heavy with their criticism. |
