Question. How the hell is that thing supposed to move? Jump like a frog? I mean, those extra long hind legs, what's up with that?

The only way I could imagine that thing "walking" would be with the snozzle almost brushing the ground, so it would look like a sniffing dog... or something. Guess that looks funny.

Try and make te legs more like an AT-AT from star wars, a little longer and straight up. It would still go slow like in the movies, but it would make it seem more frightening. Good job so far though.

Actually I know how its supposed to move.

Its basically really slow and usually stands around more like a turret type of thing. When it comes into motion the fore legs extend and the hind legs compress, and then the hind and the fore legs move at the same time but only those on one side, like it starts off of its left legs so the fore legs move up and forward and the hind legs extend forward, then the other side. This thing could be really cool if modeled AND animated in 3D.

I can't wait to see it done, so far it looks great. I'm just getting into 3ds Max (I LOVE the mesh tools, they are sooooo COOL)3D is awesome, but I still do a lot of digital Art as well to be good at both.

Anyway feel free to post this thing up when its done, I can't wait to see it.

Hmm where to start where to start, well, the drawing isn't that great (please take no offense, i suck i havent drawn in half a year lol) BUT I belieave it is an excellent design for an animated tank of sorts (I do 3d modeling myself, well again havent done so in half a year heh). The major dilema is how it'll move hmm seems like they can just bend front/back not to the side, so how would it turn and such eeh ya reconsider the leg design? I bealieave that is the right way to go. Making a static drawing is one thing (even then u gotta pay attention to mechanics and physics and so on) but when designing an animated dynamic 3D creation then it is a MUST to have it function as well! You dont wana have a box sliding now do u lol... A few ideas would be to exchange the gizmos around knees and the 'hips' where legs go in so that they can move sideways not just front/back... perhaps a transforming design would be interesting? Make it so that the legs are able to contract in and engines come out (heh old school cartoons 0wnage ) Just reconsider the functional and mechanical aspect of the legs a bit further. Its just like modeling a human and the arms, legs, its a bit tricky to animate if u model it wrong u dun wana have the muscles all $#$4@$*(@ when the arm moves.. perhaps thats a bad example but then again just think of this again "You don't want a box sliding around". OH and last but not least, its always useful to draw the same object/person whatever from different angles. I sometimes am challenged by that aspect since i still have lots to learn about traditional art but it helps alot when modeling When i model from no drawings heh, it takes alot longer just staring at the screen thinking how will i do this or that etc... Often its easy to model something when u even see one pic if u have good 3d visualization (I so damn am glad i do, not trying to be prideful or anything just happy about it ), but it still helps alot ALOT so ya :/

wow, thjanks everyone for the responses. very veryt much appreciated.
@Ai yeah, thats what i was kinda thinking
@gigatron, thanks, very useful tecvhnical notes. i was fiddeling around with a few boxes that resembled the tank, and making the legs move outwards is probably the best looking solution.

it actually walks quite fine. it just moves one leg at a time. front, then back, etc
