Hi. I'm Brandon. I used to be "regular" here, way back (note the member #). I think it would be safe to say "since the beginning". Some of the older guys may remember me, but it's doubtful. But eventually, this place got way too busy and overwhelming, and I kinda dropped off. After a while, I pretty much stopped doing art altogether. I somehow lost the drive. As it is, I haven't done a full-blown piece of art in well over a year -- just various sketches here and there, whereas before I was spending 5 hours a day working in Photoshop or Painter.

Anyway, that "drive" has started to return recently, so I sat down and busted out with something today, but my skills have definitely deteriorated. This is kinda (read: REALLY) tweaked and I don't really plan on finishing, but I figure I'll post it anyway, by way of reintroducing myself to the board, and I would appreciate any critiques anyone cares to give, which I'll apply to whatever I do next. I'll refrain from attempting to give out any advice myself until I remember some stuff about art.

Anyhow, here it is:

Be brutal.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I did this from a photo.

Funbaby!

I was gonna start a thread about you very soon, actually. Man, strange... you scare me with your psychic abilities.

I've visited funhousedigital for a long time, but have seen no changes.

I'm glad to see you're back painting again. You really have an awesome style. Don't go away again, damnit! :P

Heya fetus that is extremely fun. You might remember me, probably not. Stolln/msqrd from #digitalart when Darkm00n, Sc00p, etc. used to irc.

Anyway, it's great to have ya back. How's the band doing?

Wow, that's damn good for "not painting for a year" I've always loved your use of color, and this is no exception. Complementary color scheme mixed in with a blue coolness in the eye, hair, and liprings--very neat. The major thing I'm looking at is the overall alignment of the face. If you drop a centerline down the face, you can see that the nose you've done is actually centered on the left of the philtrum (the little indentation under the nose). So it sort of twists the face around. Even if you have lens distortion, things should still be aligned along the distortion curve. You just need to put the central cartilage of the nose within the two edges of the philtrum. Oh, also, look at the bridge of the nose..looks sort of flat because of no real value/saturation change from the corner of the eye to the actual bridge. Dunno if that's the photo or not, though. The corner of the mouth also has a weird distortion as well.

That's about as brutal and nitpicky as I can get. If you hadn't asked for it, I would have just said the center of the face thing

Finish it!

-Marc

Holy hell, you're back. Don't know if you remember me, but I thought you'd dropped off the face of the planet

The pic looks great, especially since you haven't been painting all this time.

Have fun getting back into it!

Hey! I remember you guys!

pixelsoldier: You were really going to post about me? Hey, go ahead and do it, I'm curious to see what it was gonna say. :P

mjmcchesney: Funny that you mentioned my band, just last night we played live on college radio, which was pretty cool. We haven't been playing much lately, but we've got a few gigs coming up. We also recorded a new batch of songs about, holy jesus, a year ago. Damn, I've been gone a long time.

Of course, you're right about the "philtrum" (I never knew that's what it was called). It's pretty obvious, now that I look at it. The bridge of the nose, too, but I don't think that one's TOO bad. It does look a little flat in the picture, but I guess that's where artistic license comes in. The corner of the mouth is just one of the areas that I got lazy on and didn't finish. My anatomy has really slipped, too.

Thanks for all the comments! Later.

Wow, it's just like old times in here... Oddly enough I don't think I've done a single picture since you left. Eh.

You've definitely improved. You've always had a knack for color and mood and overall visual appeal, but this shows much more confidence and solidity than anything I've seen from you. Reminds me of some of Micke's portraits. I definitely like this.

Dude, she has no inner ear!!!!!!
ahhhhh... my eyes just keep going there, the great detail everywhere else has shunned that section of the painting.
