I drew this a while back and decided that i would start painting it. I just started and spent most of my time on the face so far. As you see i have made a basic layer thats all one tone for the midshadows. I am now adding base colors where major light areas will be. as on the bone skull.

Let me know what you think and if you have any pointers or comments feel free to say em.. as long as they are constructive

First Part of the attempt

Really nice. I'm loving the pose, it's gonna be really, really awesome once the background's filled in and such. Can't wait to see it. As for backgrounds, personally, I think he'd look great in some rubble. Yep. Rubble. Broken stones and smoking debris and such. Anyway, that's my two cents worth.

this is the latest version. I started blocking in some color so that i wouldnt get lost in what i was doing. there is going to be ruins in the BG and various fallen stone pillars and drums.. and foliage and trees.

I have never seen something thats looks so professional it just blows me away, i have always had a weakness for drawings on toned paper, personally i think its us who could use a few pointers from you, i'll assume your working in photoshop, if so and i know this may be a pain but can you show us how you did it, i love learning from anyone who has the time to show me, once again great job!!

Very nice work. I'm in no position to critique your work, but might suggest working the entire painting, building up a rough bg, etc. before detailing too heavily. Surrounding colors and lighting will effect other elements. Still, great work!
