I was just playing around, trying to get reflective surfaces and I decided to create one of my newer sketches, a grasshopper character.. playing with lights and so forth. My big stuck point is I'm trying to figure out what kind of backdrop I should have (if any)... but of course all critiques and comments are welcomed, I made this as a learning process after all. Two problems I know off the bat are the grasshopper's middle back leg doesn't seem to match up right compared to his front middle leg, and the left antennae is a bit "sketchy" compared with the rest of the piece, not smooth enough... but other than those if you see something that catches your eye PLEASE feel free to point it out

Here's my reference that I used while doing the body as well, I just used it for general shapes, not sure how well the high detail grooves would look on my character, since it's so cartoony...

well i cant really say much since you're smarter than me for using reference but the only thing is that the back leg (the big one). his right leg looks a lot taller than his left one so that looks a bit odd but i think it's a good practice for lighting and whatnot--he's a cool grasshopper |

Damn you and your translucent grasshopper. Now I'm asking myself: "I wonder if I could do that in glass and if it would look kewl."
Again, thanks for the inspiration. Hope it stays until september. |
