Hello everyone,

This is a gift for my wife's birthday this weekend. She doesn't care for my darker work as much so I went with my older style for this one.

She's never seen any of my light work.

It's themed in the Middle Earth World. Ignore my signature and words for now. They'll be gone with its completion.

Hope she likes...and you do too. ;-)

WOW, the style..........

As for being a "light" picture, well the sun is rising and it looks like a wonderful morning, but there are dark suggestions all over which makes it soooo good!

egerie -

I'd be happy to make a desktop out of it for you. I'll post a larger version when it nears completion.

lel -

Thank you very much.

Levijuice -

Thanks for your kind words.

What a wonderful reception! That made my day, hopefully she'll like it as much as you all did. All the time put into it would be well worth it, if so.

Thanks again for taking the time out to respond.

one thing about the text on the top....give it some breathing room on the top....the whole....LORD OF THE RINGS "summer" thing...bring it down a bit....doesnt look good with it hogging the top....it ruins an absolutely georgeous painting! great stuff otherwise!!!

I really enjoy looking at your artwork and it's refreshing to see a brighter piece from you! I also should do a sunny image for a change, very unlikely though.. I just love darkness

I have a couple of comments about the image:
The composition is excellent and the colours are beautiful. My only complaint is the lack of "layering".

This is what I mean by layering:

Keep up the good work and draw Mordor next

timo, call me stupid, but i don't really know what you did differently aside from muting the colors andchanging a little bit of the texturing...

i'm definitely curious, though... i know i have lots to learn, and take every opportunity i can get...

[edit]
nevermind, i'm an ass... you altered the lights and shadows to get a better sense of depth in the picture, didn't you? forgive my earlier ignorance...

Timo -

Thanks for taking the time out to do that, Timo.

Depth is a progressive thing, which eventually becomes apparent in the end. Youll see it now.

However, I did try to mute the colors some but didn't like the results. It works well for you...but not for the image in my head. It's abstract and vivid...but intentionally so.

The path is lit brightly, but the path is center of my theme. The path leads you from your pc to a beautiful and adventurous world. The viewer takes on a dream like state.

Luna-

Thanks

Lowtekk-

BG is mainly a speed artist. He's a very good one

Go check out the "painting complex objects" tutorial over at - Concept Art
He did a great sample there.

Thanks for the replies.

Here's the finished image-

mythwarden, wow! Will you marry me...please? It's been a long time since seen anything this much beautiful. Love this style, like it better than your 'new' darker one You should get back to this one. Much more breathtaking.

What medium you used? Looks a bit acrylic like, but it's allmost inpossible to have colours like that in acrylic, so it has to be digital?

Stunning image... the tiny blue flowers really bring the colors out. The style reminds me of Terbush, he uses very vivid and glowing colors.

If you wouldn't mind, may I please have a full rez version of this image for my desktop? This is deffinatley one of my favorite paintings I've seen.

silverrrspoon -

Thank you, Sir. I appreciate your comments.

Tillek -

Thanks Tillek.

I'll put up a desktop version as soon as it's complete.

---
I thought on it and I don't think it's finished. Something is missing, and I know what it is.

I'll post the updated version late tonight if not tomorrow.

Thanks everyone.

Thanks, Cless.

I forgot, silverrrspoon asked what medium I used too.

Photoshop -- I try to paint the same way I would with acryics or oils in it. It allows for a much wider range of colors.

Mythwarden, I love the new version, the water is awesome now!

LoTekK: To answer your question, this is what I basically made in the paintover: colours are more saturated in the areas of interest and the values have layered transition... god I hate explaining, just a moment.. ok, this should explain everything:

(if this is still hard to understand I would suggest you to take a look at Craig Mullins' or Peter Baustaedter's work, especially the landscape paintings)

Sorry for slowing down your thread by this image, I'll remove it right away if you want

I'm glad you posted that, BG. I'm not worried about the thread being slowed down.

I'd rather people learn from great posts like that.

---

I'm almost done with the painting. I added a little more detail then I probably should have...but it seemed necessary in some areas. I'll try to post the painting tonight.

Thank you, Sir. I was going to paint it in oils, but it was a trade off. I chose the vibrant colors of digital painting for once. I usually don't give digital art as gifts -- Always traditional.

It was worth it though. ;-)

---

-Painting is Complete-

Here's a smaller version of it. If you liked it, then you're welcome to grab the desktop.

Thanks everyone for keeping me inspired.

Now to have a high quality print made that can produce the more vibrant colors.

Hopefully she likes her gift.

Hah...thanks.

glody -

I missed your message earlier.

Thank you very much for your kind comments.

I gave her, her gift along with a nice dinner and whine...she loved it. I haven't seen her smile that big in a long long time.

If only she knew it wasn't enough...I'd give her the world if I had it to give.

Thanks again everyone, and have a great weekend.

i've just recently gotten my wacom pad and am still getting used to it...what technique/tool do you use to get a smooth transition of color. thats been the hardest thing for me. I've been into traditional art for quite sometime and in my pencil drawings i do a lot of blending and smoothing with a tissue, but i can't really get nice smooth transitions while digitally painting, hows it done?

ZippZopp-

Blending is done in a couple different ways. Painter is a better for blending but Photoshop is good too.

1. Smudge Tool - I usually use this tool a lot but rarely touched it for anything but the water in this one.
Try flattening a brush so that it's near a line in appearance. Then use it as you would a knife and pull the paint around.

2.Airbrush - Giving the brush a soft edge will usually work well for blending.

You can also mix the colors together more with overlays and such.
