3 hrs so far. I want to get it more realistic? Its looking pasty and cartoonish to me. When I draw anything without reference...it usually looks pasty and cartoonish...CC if you will please. Thank you. |

Looks nice ewok, very pretty.
The background looks nice too but it they don't seem to blend together too well (the lighting doesn't look consistant).
The arrowhead could probably be thinner and myabe some sort of crafty curves and stuff would look nice. But that's just my personal preference.
She appears to have been surprised by something, or someone with a very long sword and large armor perhaps? hehe.
To view the image you should copy the url and paste it in a new browser window. Geocities is a bitch.

Looking very nice. Keep adding colors to the background. Check your lighting. If you use all local tone colors then it will look more color graphic.
Check lighting. Check colors (add in non local tones). Check shadows. Check detail.
Good work. Looking forward to see this one completed. |

Nova - you're right, the lighting of the character and the background are not consistant..I actually pasted the character onto the background you see, which is from an actual photograph. Yea the arrow needs a little more work, and I forgot to add the bow string.
Light - what do you mean by local tone colors? Or being more color graphic?
Thanks for the crits so far. Btw, does the foreshortened hand look right? She's not supposed to be aiming at the viewer, only glancing at him/her. |

I mean hmm if you dont throw in some color your picture looks like it was made to look "cartoony" or like a color graphic work.
I'd show you an example but I'm too lazy. Study the old masters. Study Boris (in this case). Study photos. Study reality.
You'll see what I mean. |

Ok,here's the update. Fixed the arrow I want to get some nice textures into the heavy woolen cloak. Stitches and stuff showing. Any ideas on how to achieve that?

I don't really post comments unless I really like the picture, so please take my comments with that in mind. I think that there is something wrong with the way that the bow is being held, you say she is glancing at the viewer while aiming at something else. What I see is that her right hand is holding the bow straight at the viewer as if she was aiming at the viewer, but her left hand in pulling the string as if she were aiming off screen. Basically it looks like she is holding the bow facing left (relative to her) and pulling straight. That is wierd and makes an otherwise amazing painting seem kinda strange.
I may be way off base here, but if you didn't have her right arm coming straight at the viewer, but instead pointed it to viewer's left a bit, and flexed the bow towards her left hand more, this picture would really shine.
Again, somebody else comment on this particular comment because I'm not sure if I'm missing something or not.
Love the picture though, just have problems with the perspective. |
