I decided to start a new picture. I really wanted to try and get the anatomy down as well as I could before I started to actually paint, so I put a LOT of work into these lines. Sometimes its disappointing to post my line work because people get the impression that it doesn't require as much effort as a polished painting. But what people don't realize is that with drawings like these, I have a really hard time getting them to look the way I want. Silly me

Anyway.... here is the first step for this piece. I plan on coming back to this thread and updating with new pictures as I progress. Hopefully I won't give up on this one. I don't usually draw the full figure.

That is Beautiful .. i love the ambience and her expression ...

For your lines, Im guessing you used a normal 2b mechanical pencil for the sketch,(i always do) but what kind of ink did you use ?
Or was the black lines done in Photoshop ?

Cant wait for the finished product ..

Oh and i think you should fix the line on her right leg .. it looks 'dented in'

Thanks for the crit on the leg... I'll have to fix that. You're talking about the top of the leg right? The shin?

I didn't use any traditional media for this, I sketched it all out in PS.

*grabs a bag of popcorn and puts legs up on the coffee table*

Gotta see this.

BTW, watch her ankles and feet. Ankles seem a bit thick on her left, and the feet might be slightly small, and lack perspective compared to the body.

Updated the image again... tried to thin out the ankles a bit there. Hopefully it looks better.

looks good so far. nice texture and colors in the background. i might be wrong- but the arm seems slightly short and its pose feels a little awkward- the way it's so close to the body and the way the hand is twisted towards the viewer. also, viewer-right side of her face seems a bit off perspective. (again, i may be wrong).

Ok... fixed a little stuff with the arm, added a wing on the far side and began painting on the shroom. That part isn't done yet obviously... hehe....

the foot farthest away, is backwards, she needs maybe a little indication of hips?

and maybe under her hand dont make the shadow so dark so it looks more rounded, it looks a teeny lil flat like paper fingers...

all personal opinion though i still like it

Those textures in the mushromm and in the background look awesome. Any pointers how you did them?

Wow, this looks great the mushrom texture is excellent(is it z brush?). Can't wait to see the finished version. Just a little crit:
Her right hand looks a little strange to me.

I think you are one of the fastest improving artists in this forum. I still can remember your pics 1 1/2 years ago - you learned a lot!!

Oooooer.... thanks so much everyone!

Yeah, the feet/legs are still a bit wonky. I'm going to try and fix those bits up whenever I get to painting the figure (which will probably be the next step... if there is a next step. )

looks promising, jezebel!
I've been dying to see some progressive steps of yours...one of the ears look off and maybe the second wing could be put in another position...well I made a little illustration to show my suggestions. And if you don't agree with them it's fine.

keep it up

the face seems a tad bit too wide to me. If she didn't have breasts I would've thought it was a guy... Maybe a bit more hair covering the face could help. Or maybe it's just me liking pretty boys... Don't know really.

Well that's the only thing I found wrong in that picture. otherwise it looks damn cool, especially the colouring.

Gaaah... I'm REALLY pissed off right now. Photoshop crashed on me about 8 times (no exaggerations unfortunately) and I lost the picture over and over and over again. You can only repaint something so many times before it starts to really suck ass and you don't put your heart in to it. Sorry for the terrible picture... not really going anywhere.

And just for the record, this isn't a finished piece.... I may stop working on it, but its definitely not complete. :P

8 times?!?! wow..
Don't give up jez. after so much work put into the lines and the beautiful mushroom, it'd be a shame to let it go.
