Hello everyone.

I have just goten this to the flat stage and a little bit of modeling on the figure.

I always seem to move to fast into detail so i was wondering if anyone could suggest a next step. Should I try to find the tones and values next or lighting? Would it help to wait until I have some more shading until worrying about values?

Any ideas would be helpful, latley I have been feeling like my work could look better if I didn't rush to finish so i want to try and take some time with this and see if my rushing is costing me the look I want or if I just need more practice. (Well, I know I can always use more practice. )

Thanks and here we go.......

Well if it was me... the next step would be to pick a light source.. and start adding some general shadows. But thats just me..

Ok, so here is where I am at now.
I have set my light source. And now I am debating between working out he background first, the figure or trying to work on everything at the same time.

I really want to go in and start on detail but I always do that an then never finish the entire piece.

Any suggestions or crits fell free.....

That looks great! The brown mountains seem a little strange though.

On a side note, I can't see any of the full pictures on your site. It gives me some javascript error every time.

Five Iron Skillet, thanks for the comment. And thanks for telling meabout the bug, I will try to resolve that although I hope to have a new site done in about a week, I have been having problems with the site for awhile and my friend that programmed it is not available to help me, so I am doing one that is much simpler and that I will be able to make changes to.

Oh and I have changed the brown mountains, they were mostly just a quick sketch for me to remember what I was thinking. Working on the wings now and probably most of tonight, so I will post a new update tommorrow.

Looking real good.. i'm most interrested in seeing how your wings turn out.. been experimenting with that a bit lately.. wasnt really 'that' happy with the results but good enough i guess

Hippie, I'd suggest adding some colour variation into your shadows. The whole colour scheme seems very warm right now, making the brown shadows look out of place. Some cool colours in the shadows would fit better with such a warm light source. Plus, they would help unify the figure and the sky.
I'm certainly no expert on colour though, so feel free to ignore me if it doesn't feel right.
I like the suggestive pose...but her extended leg seems to bend a bit too much around the other.

well, i guess its "angel day", or perhaps not ...but its a cool pic! I would agree with the above c&c. In addition her left hand/forearm seem a little small to me, but no biggee. the shade on her skin tone seems a little "black"...but you may have intended that! I look forward to seeing this finished.

NiM: not done with the wings yet but thisshould give you an idea of where I am headed, let me know if you have any suggestions.

Eric: your right about the warmness of the piece, I will add some variation into the skin now that I have an idea of the wings I'm starting to work on background, possibly clouds and such as well as her clothing and jewelry.

cptoonz: now that you mention it her arm does look a little strange, I will have to look at that closer, thanks for pointing it out

And now the update:

Been taking a break from this piece ove rthe weekend though I did some work to the background and to the clothing. Some more work on the wings and hair.

Would love any comments or suggestions. I seem to be having a hard time getting the hair to look correct and natural. Also I am trying to avoid the temptation to smudge colors for blending.

Anyway here we go:

i find (in photoshop at least) That blending on a small brush when controlled with a light power is good, or the smudge tool, but only in small area's that i later touch up on, just to get the base colour moved right, but then on top building with very light transparancies adjusting the colour. (i colour well paint bad)
