I'd like to see the reference for this. And how about putting in a blue background instead of green, and doing some blue in the clothes(shadows) as well? Don't give up! Go wild!

the reference for the pic is this:

im currently trying to make the face look more similiar to the picture. with no noteworthy effort so far

also tried a blue background, but it didnt look right maybe a darker bg, like the original photo has, is the way to go.

what i meant with "colors" was more meant to give the picture more abstract colors... not so "reallife" ones.

but thanks for the hints

Yes.. try making the background black and try making it very light to give the picture a light airy feel.

If you want it to look more "artistic" then try adding in some blue, purple, green, or gray in the cool areas and some white in the warm areas.

If you dont mind I think I'll try to see what I can do with this one.

Here is my version.. I hope you like it(?)

Anyway.. all I did was blackened the background and added a few highlights, added some blues, purples, and grays to the face and clothes.

Uhm.. I didnt bother to cleanup the outline and you could probably take this further (like adding more modeling/texture to the face).

Also, you might want to try putting it on a very light background. This gives me contrast but a light background will make the entire image look brighter and more "light".

Its all a matter of your own personal taste.

Btw.. i didnt add that much green/gray -- try adding some of that.

Check out Hals, Sargent, Rubens, and Vermeer for some good artistic paint styles. Also check out Degas. Pick up "secrets of a sunday painter". The writing is pretty pointless but the pictures shows some really artistic painting styles.

Try adding some brush strokes in the light areas. Try adding some saturated reds also in the mid tones or cool tones of gray and green layed down spontaniously.

hmm i think also sharpening it up abit around the features and adding in more contrasting lighting, such as darkening shadows and lightening brightpoints will help.

see i've learned through music to exagerate, and find doing so in my art helps alot.

thanx for the hint, i was wondering whats the difference between that two

i like the colors your version of the pic almost like i wanted them to look, but i wanted to make the strokes more visible.
at the moment im still trying to finish the face, catch her look, and make it look like her before i continue to add colors.

ill take a look at some traditional art too. but i wont have time to do so in the next days

Hey Light, good comments. And if you didn't know, it is indeed possible to edit your posts if you mistype or double-post In your post, behind your name -> there's a button to edit/delete. The pencil w/ paper icon, see it?

But to the topic, I think that if you pay more attention to the reference, you'll be able to create more likeness. For instance, inside the mouth you haven't defined the tounge. And the skin above her eyes is too tight, you have to 'round' it around the eyeball. And I'm with Light, put more patches of colour around the image. It will make the image less flat, I think. The all-black eyes are also a bit disturbing, I think. Just needs more overall work, and you'll be there...
