i was trying to draw this spider pic but i don't know which one looks better.
or
they both need work, but i don't know which one to keep.

So far so good. His face is mighty flat right now though. You should use a bright highlight (like on the second one) and darken his face up below the 'nose'(like in the forst one. His eye looks like it is just a piece of loose satin. Now I've always had trouble with 'shinf' materials that were relativley flat (windows for example) but I can tell you that your highlight should be a more uniform shape like a circular highlight or a tapered dash type thing. I'd be interested in what other peaoples tips are on highlights.
All in all though it's looking good. |

Get rid of the cast shadow from the eye. Make the highlight much smaller and sharper. Add shading to face as whole. Use some more colors.
Its a good try but its a bit lacking in expression as well. Maybe work more on sketching and less on rendering for awhile. |
