Here is my second attempt at drawing something. I would like to make him more 3d looking. He looks pretty flat. Anyway, I wanted to draw an armadillo kind of like the squirrel in ice age.

Second attempt at drawing something?
What do you mean?
Like.... second attempt here... or... ever?
Anyhow, that's one cool armadillo. Like it alot.
The facial expression is excellent, and the textures are very cool. It reminds of some old Tjekkoslovakian animations that I watched as a kid. Very nice.
If you'd want it to be more 3D, then I'd suggest two things:
1. The belts at the mid-section of the body should not be drawn in straight lines, as they in reality bend around the body. Try to capture their bend. Wrap the lines round the body.
2. Add some shading and\or heavier lineweight at the parts of the body that point away from the general lightsource of the image. Since the image seems to contain just a "general lightsource", this would probably mean that you should put the shadows on the underside of the armadillo. In addition, you can shade either one side of the body parts, to make it look like the light is coming from the other direction.
here's a quick mock-up of how it would look:
your 'dillo
(By the way, me thinks it looks great as it is. 3D is overrated, heh)

thank you very much, very helpful! It's my second attempt to draw something on the computer. I used to draw a lot more a long time ago. Otherwise,I doodle a bit & I've done some photo manipulation texture work...never hand drawn anything much. So I am proud that I have actually finished 2 drawings in photoshop in 2 days! |
