I'm too lazy to dig up the original threads where these should go into, so I'm just going to throw them all into a new thread.
What I've done since the last update was basically deciding on the neutral colors for all the characters and background. By neutral, I mean without being effected by lighting. I didn't do any concept sketches before hand, so these characters were designed on the fly while I sketched out the layout for the paintings. I think it worked out better because these characters were pretty much designed specifically for the paintings, so their weapons and clothing are part of the overall composition.
Anyway, I then blocked in all the shadows and highlights.
So, now, I think I'm ready to get into the actual details. But, before I do that, I'd love to get some moer C&C from you lovely folks before I start the next phase.

excellent! marvelous! I4ve followed the sketch thread, and now seeing them in color is great!
Oh I forgot, you have a mistake in the shadows on the first pic. The left woman is cut in half by the shadow, but her shadow is complete (not cut in half) |

Top notch!!
The first image- The center characters are looking great. Yet I can not place my finger on it but external characters I don't know don't look quite right.
The second image- Looking superb I hope you keep the soft hazy like atmosphere keeps with the love, soft, first morning light kind of subject.
The third image- I ment to mention this in the sketch thread while I was at work, but didn't log on. I like that it is dynamic, however, I question detending the depth of the image by placing the death characters there. I like the one in the foreground, but the background ones I am not sure if they work. I you want them to stay might I suggest that you show some acknowledgement that they are there, by having the female looking in that direction. Otherwise I would x the and place the warrior and maden against a rock/wall or something to that effect.

Basement bound- Hehe. The archer is my favorite one in the image too. I think it's his relaxed but cool pose, with only part of his face exposed while rest in the shadow. My GF posed for that one. She also posed for the guy closest to the front. The other characters had no reference.
The second one I think will be somewhat of a headache. I'm not too sure yet what finalized colors I'll use to depict early morning. I've never done a pic in that lighting before, so it'll be a challenge.
The third one-- I didn't have the enemies in the back initially, but someone pointed out that the father should be in the front to protect his family. I had tried that and found the composition undesirable, so I made it like they were surrounded. If one of family is turn the other way, I think the dynamic of the image will be reduced. I tried to convey that the enemy in the front is closer to them, that's why they are turned towards him. *shrug* Things can still change before I dive into the detail. If anyone's got another solution, feel free to help me out.

These are going to be so cool to follow.
In the second image, is the warriors
elbow to low? I think its out of proportion.
If you draw an arc from the elbow to the
waist I think it actually falls below (the waist). ![](images/smiles/icon_razz.gif) |

In the last picture maybe you can either
have the warrior look over one of his
shoulders (I think I'd prefer HIS left one)
while still threatening the creep in front
of him with his sword (the position for
the sword is fine for this comment).
Or you could have the warriors HEAD
ONLY SLIGHTLY turned over his
shoulder BUT his eyes still on the
creep in front of him. So he gives
the impression that he's aware of the
creeps behind him by slightly turning his
head in thier direction but his focus is
still on the creep in front of him.
maybe? ![](images/smiles/icon_razz.gif) |

I really like all 3, but especially the first one... beautiful composition, posing, shadow-play, character-design... that long cool woman in a black dress - I love her design!
But even though the posing individually works nicely, together they look a little stiff. The one I'd turn would be the redhead, however I know it's too late to do that now, sorry I missed the sketch thread.
What are they doing? Hm, maybe we, the audience, are seeing it from the POV of the 6th member of their group, who's returning to them...
"You're late!"
"Sorry. Had to kill a few orcs." |

Steven-- Hahaha! More like:
"Where the hell were you?"
"You missed your watch, and we should've left an hour ago."
"Hehehe. I was with this bar-maid in the kitchen of the Traveller's Inn."

I corrected the shadows for the first one, but I'm not sure if it still has the same impact.
Does the colors look right? I was picturing around 3pm-ish lighting. How can I make it more effective?
Steven- I'll look into turning the redhead and see if it'll look good.
I just tried it, and looks weird because she ends up facing the same direction as the mage to her right.
dizzypope-- I'll look into the elbow and the turning of the head. Thanks.

I'm forcing myself to paint looser than in the past. I'm tired of working really tight. This is my attempt to lossen up. I think I'm still too uptight with my brush work. Grrr.....
Hey, Bang, I corrected the mountains as you suggested. How does it look now?

these are all very cool, but i have a question about the third one. the character defending the woman and child is very well done, but i cant find his left foot. also, i cant quite tell if the woman is holding the child or if the child is standing on its own, if the latter, the child would need legs as well. if im just not seeing it right, sorry. very well done though, keep it up!

Mharett- Actually, the man's left foot is blocked by the woman's torso and left leg. I probably will have to move him a bit so it'll show. The baby is being held by the woman. You can't see her left arm because it's just a mess of shadows in that area right now. I will make it more obvious in the finished version. |

Luna, they look cool but you need more contrast, specially in the first one |

Pretty cool. I don't really have some more constructive comments.
I like the middle one best because it really has a "story" feel. Like a frame from a movie or something.
I think the lighting on the first one is a great choice. It helps integrate the characters.
Dude I wish my girl was rich and could support me while I work all day on cool stuff like this! Hehehe |

I'm finding that, in the group picture, the shadow that falls onto the red-head disruptive and just does not look good. Maybe a more motley'ed shadow would be best. |

The mountains look a bit dull, like the mountains you see in for example Afganistan. I like the look of the Alps and Alaska, they have this fresh and clear look, not so much dust and brown. Something like this:
