I tried something new for my portfolio site, a different color scheme I've never really used before. If you guys could critique it before I get too far with the site that would be great. I just want to make sure it comes off ok. Thanks

the site is

D E R E K W A R N E R . N E T

thanks again... I know its not really a painting or anything but anyones opinion would be greatly appriciated.

Rav

Looks nice! But it also looks like it's not working very well...
There are gaps between the side and the middle parts of your construction... ( I've got a resolution of 1600 x 1200 )
But it looks good!

Looks interesting, the only thing that I might suggest is slowing down some of the animation it is very busy and it is acutally very distrating.

Woosh! Very pretty.

But I really don't like the pop-up to get to your portfolio. Pop-ups = annoying!

Personally I think that the Idle animations on all the Grey parts is a little bit anoying. just shop em all as they are.. or slow down alot as said before..
Popups are anoying.

But the design is good I like it alot.

I love them but they should be slowed down...not taken off... don't forget this is a artists site... there should be a essence of creativity here... I think that shows well in this nav bar. Also great stuff in your portfolio Raven.

I'm gonna be putting my streaming 3d animations up soon, but I'm glad that you understood what I was doing with the pop up for my portfolio... I was, at one point not evein going to use "graphics" for buttons and just use text because it is my portfolio and I want them to JUST see my artwork and nothing more... but it seems I should slow them down.. the vote is like well 6/0 to slow them down... I'll update this again in a week or longer when I get some more cool stuff up. There are not going to be anymore pop ups except for the portfolio. Thank you all for your critique.

nice one...
crit to those who think its got too much fast anims..
check out www.2advanced.com and see some of their websites therve done,..

its similar to the style your doing..
most of the small little anims are so fast and subtle that it works well.

I like your color pallete its very neo/glass
check out 2advanced for a better understanding of the design that goes with the style.. there very polished

That stuff on that site ROCKS! I havn't added my sounds for them yet.. but that site totally rocks. Do you work for them or is it just for reference?

Gave me some good ideas though for making them more subtle instead of slower... I slowed them down and they look chunky but making them more transparent and such could fix them. Thanks for the info.

Question: are you using Flash MX? If not, consider downloading the trial version and create the flash portfolio that way.

Overall, it looks great and it's easy to navigate. Right now I'm not seeing any gaps or anything inconsistent about the design.

At any rate, the flash portfolio (with the slideshow, etc) is a huge 1.2 MB file. That's huge! I'm guessing it's because you have those intricately high rez pictures embedded into it. It's perfectly understandable to not want to optimize them - this is your portfolio where you showcase your finest at its best after all! If you use Flash MX you can dynamically import Jpegs into your swf at run time. It might be more efficient to have the large high rez image load if the user clicks on that particular thumbnail. The user will also see the thumbs and interface right away - keep 'em on their toes.

Nice work though, keeep it up! Your artwork looks great too!

Thanks for the advice! What I'm going to do.. is when you press the portfolio button I'm gonna have it bring up a page that says flash or html... and have an html page with the portfolio also. That should work.

Thanks to everyone for their critique's. You guys rock.
