Howdy folks.
Well .. im on towards a turning point in my life. My first ever Finished Completely Digital Painting. And I need YOU to help me get there.

OK, this one has taken me alot of time, being kinda newbie on paintingtechniques in the world of PhotoShop.
The backgrounf is kinda unready,, just placeholder, but feel free to brainstorm some ideas around it.

One problem I see with the figure is the way the cloak feels.. its kinda static, nonfluid where it touches the ground...

Well. ,, anything you se, miss ,, think can be improved is welcome.

UPDATE: Version 2 .. I tried tro apply some of the thoughts from you who replied.

hey nice start. although I'm not really qualified to give much advice on digital painting I can see a couple of things that might be improved.

firstly the cape as you said is very static, it doesn't flow. I think one reason for this is that the character is in a very static pose yet the cape is flying wildly all around him. we can see that it is not flying out because of the characters movement or any wind factor (as the explosions in the bg aren't affected), so it sorta gives the impression that it is held there with wire or something? either make the cape hang vertically or give a reason for it to be flying around.

Some areas of the pic are a bit blurry, especially around the legs, but that's not a biggy.

The explosions seem too uniform, like they were all done with the same size brush. vary the size and shapes of the sparks and maybe add a bit of debris flying out aswell? Possibly a bit of yellow back-light on the figure might help too.

anyway as I said, there are tons of people here better than me at this, so take what you think can help and disregard the rest.

Hi,

The design for your character is cool. I'm no more qualified than anyone else to tell you how to paint digitally, but I have some suggestions for the general lighting of the pic... I did a rough paintover.

The inquisitor looks a little pasted onto the background. Like Bastion said, I tried to bring some of the yellow from the explosion into the foreground, on the hill area and edges of his cape. Since they'd be backlighting him, I darkened the front of the character as well.

For a little motion I smudged the end of the cape on the right.

I also brought in some grayish-blue from the surroundings to his cape. This kind of color sharing helps "stick" the character to the background.

I hope this gives you some ideas. I want to see this pic when it's done -- should be really nice!

I expect to hear a WAAAAGH! from the buildings behind him and Orks to pour out of them. Its perfectly setup for a Warhammer 40k. Especially the seal/emblem on the pistol.

Thnx for the advises folks.. well the legs and the cloak around them arent really finished yet.. for example I think it needs more shadow on the cloak at the left leg, just arounf the kneecap.
the background is my weak department so to speak, Im kinda clueless on what to do, and its not really my thing to draw architecture , , or explosions.. i just have to study that further.

BASTION - cant we just saay that it flows.. Its so hard to repaint it.. its a small wind. . hhehe,, but ofcourse you have a Point.

Allen W - Tnx alot.. I like where you took it..its that way I want it to be kinda.
Im gonna bring in some darkness to the front,.. it is far more realistic and also it brings in a more menacing look. The darkpurple in the backfround is great to. Ill fix that tonight when I get home.

mechpest - ;-) Kinda obvius where I got the inspiration. hehe.
