I was basically just sketching out ideas, and decided to take this one into Photoshop for a bit of refining. I'm not sure whether it's really interesting enough to be worth finishing off as a painting. Any suggestions would be appreciated, perhaps ideas for an extra subject to add to the composition.

Great, I love it. Could add some birds circling in the distance, and might make the tip of sword resting on the ground, so he don't have to hold all the weight?

Pretty nice. Maybe put some sort of foreground in with explorers just discovering this statue.

My only crit is that the head looks a bit small (though that is probably intentional). Looks great!

Hey Ceenda...man, this is looking really rad! I'm diggin' the whole look of it. The only thing I really noticed in your version that Henrik really improved is the mountains on top of the moutain statue. In yours they look really out of proportion (really small) because we have nothing to compare them to. In Henrik's, the small aircraft, etc., give us a reference to the size of the whole thing, and as a result, the mountains look like they are these huge things in the distance. If you don't want to take the same route as Henrik, you could try adding some really light blue to make the mountains look like they are in the distance. I'm away from my comp. until tomorrow, otherwise I'd do a repaint to show you what I mean. Hope this helps

Nice pic Ceenda and Henrik, that's a damn fine overpaint, please be bored more often I would also go for more dramatic perspective, and the sword bugs me, I have never seen a sword shaped like that. Usually the blade gets only thinner and thinner, not thin at the start and broad in the end.. I think I'm rambling, this repaint should explain what I'm saying about the sword (and the perspective):

Hey, great to see a painting by you, haven't seen your art in a while. Looks great man, awesome concept! I think it looks great as is, but if you want to add more, one way to go is to have that huge mountain, above clouds that are hanging over a huge valey or plains sort of landscape, with the sentry rising above everything. hmm maybe a repaint when i get home if i'm not clear =)

Thanks for all the crits and comments everyone!

chrono1: Yup, I liked that one best!

henrik: Wow! That is awesome, the sense of scale is great!

Bg: Come to Scotland, and I will show you a claymore. Pah! Who needs swordplay when you can swing a broad-head in a figure of eight and walk in a straight line! I really like the perspective in that paintover though!

Dryfire: Thanks! Where is Paintchat thesedays??? I tried drawsomething.com, but I get a domain box in the password section which I can't fill in.

i figure the broad-head adds more weight to the blade, so you get more momentum on your swing. right?

man i suck at painting. that looks nothing like slave i...

oh, btw, the foreground element is what you really needed, ceenda, the picture looks great now. and henrik... wooooo .
