If you know anything about Crohns disease or Ulcerative Colitis, you might have a remote idea of the humor behind this. I happen to have both illnesses (boohoo) and therefore feel justified in poking a little fun at them. If any of you share the same fate, I hope this isn't offensive in any way.
Anyway, still a long ways to go with this one although I'm fairly pleased with the lighting on Dr. Crohns (the big dude). There is a light that's part of the mechanism strapped to Colitis Boy that will help light him and make him a bit more visible.
I'd love to hear any comments or critiques.
This is the original sketch.
Here's the painting in its current form. Painted entirely in Painter 6.

Well I didn't know anything about either of these illnesses until your post. Of course after I saw your pic, I had to go look them up.
Damn you for making me learn things
Your painting is coming along great. Can't wait to see how you handle the lighting on Colitis Boy.
Are you working with layers in Painter? I always end up with fuzzy edges when I use the program.. maybe it's just how I paint though. You've got very crisp sillouhettes going there.
Btw- is that a splatter on the doctor's lab coat? yuck.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune. Great transition from sketch to painting. Very dramatic lighting, though I am unsure of the shadow casted of the main man's face. Seems like there is no reason for it, perhaps if his arm was up to block the sunlight.

Damn nice!
Cool team those guys.
I also miss the lighting seen in the sketch in the doctors' face.
This could be a series, yes?!

Creepy!
Have had chrones disease since I was 16.
thats long enough to envision the big guy holding his hand up pulling 'the glove' tight over his fingers!
nice work.

This work very much kicks ass!
Only thing in the painting I was a little disapointed to see all the cool detail that went into the little one painted over in a siloett... would be cool if something gave off just enough light to pick up a few features, like the face or something so we can tell what it is in the painting!
Great job BTW! |

You render it cool, but... I think that the top line of the clouds makes your character seem smaller instead of taller... It forms a disturbing strange arrow pointing to the top of the pic. |

Thanks for the comments so far, if you've got anymore, I'd love to hear them. There have been some good suggestions.
Manik Monkei: No I am not using layers on this particular one. And yes, that's splatter on the Dr's coat. I agree...yucky.
Basement Bound: I know what you're saying about the lighting on the Dr's face. I've been debating adding more detail to it but the natural reaction for a viewer is to look at the face and I don't want that as a focal point so I'm still deciding what to do.
Sukhoi: I will probably do a few more of this dirty duo. We'll have to see.
Rorsh: Bringing back some nightmares dude....
SynrrG: Remember this is in the WIP section, and the disappointment you are feeling will pass in time when I actually get the painting finished and you're able to see more of Colitis Boy.
ELLioT: You make a good point. I've noticed the same thing and I'm planning on changing the clouds a bit to try to fix the problem. Thanks. |

Wooooow man... pretty god damn nice! Two thumbs up!
I too had to go and "get enlightend" about what exactly the illnesses you're suffering from had to do with mister nasty and mister helpfull here! What my initial thoughts were, from just seing your piece of art here, weren't that much off base I can tell you, offcourse all taken into consideration! That says more to me about the power of the composition than anything else!
...man, the way you've worked that lighting is simply incredible!!!
Cannot wait to see the progress!! |

Man, it's coming along great!
It's reminescent of Brom's work to me. I love the color scheme. It works great with the subject matter.
I'm glad you're turning your misfortune into something positive. I'm not gonna feel sorry for you because I get a sense that you would hate that!
Can't wait to see the final version! |

wow, I'd take both diseases just to be able to make art like THAT ..
fortunately, there's no connection between drawing talent and those illnesses.. or is there?
No crits at all from me =) |

There just might be. I've got UC and I'm pretty decent compared to rest on the forum. Nice touch with the toilet paper attachments for UC boy. I'd probably do that too, if it didn't look so damn stupid in real life. Good luck with your condition.
P.S. No, the talent isn't worth disease.

ALL I CAN SAY IS WHEN I LOOK AT
THAT PAINTING, I FEEL FOR YOU!
But I'm laughing at the same time.
Give us lesser folks some advice. Like how to get really nice defined lines.
Do you have tutorials by chance? |

Wow, what a subject to paint about. Well its not as bad as that one guys post called "peeeeeeeeee" or whatever. That guy was a freak. But i guess you can do that because you have the illnesses. In the same sense maybe ill make a Testicular Cancer Boy picture. Can see it now, walkin around with a bag of ice and always leaning to the left. Ha! Nice pic though. Semi-disgusting but nice all the same.

amazing work on color, and definitely a really humourus way to treat this topic!
I'm really facinated by your coloring! Would you care to explain me how you did proceed for the choice of color and for the all coloring processing?
I'm currently searching to obtain such a rendering, as a new coloring way for me. I'll be really pleased if you accept to discuss it ( here or privately through e-mail)
BTW, did I said "great picture" ? |

Whoa, been a while since I've been able to touch this. I've also been in Hawaii for a week or so......blah blah blah.
So here's a slight update on the WIP. I've only been able to work on it for an hour or so since the original post. Progress is slow but I've just got too much sheeit going on.
Here's a detail of the area I've updated.
Please continue to comment. I've received a lot of help. Thanks |

Sorry you think its too dark. It's not done yet though and will lighten up some. But, I really wanted a derker mysterious feel to the peice so I guess I'll take your comments as a compliment!
Here's an update. Haven't had a lot of time to work on it so progress is slooow, but at least it's making progress right?
Here's a detail of the area I've been working on most recently.

Wow, looking good. I only have two suggestions, or requeststs really, 1. Work Faster, I can't wait to see it done. and 2. fix the perspective on the TP.
That's it. It looks great. |
