Looks good so far!
If you keep up the good work and finish the dragon it sure will look awsome!
Nice shading...
I've been thinking what kind of background would fit... hmmm that's gonna be hard, in case u're even planning on giving it one... .
Just my 2 cents, because I know that it sucks when you don't get repys...

I'm curious, how do people achieve such smooth shading? Do you practice one stroke methods or do you just use a brush at like 5-10%?

The phoenix looks awesome, couldn't wait to see the finished version. Are you going to make another wing visible and add tail feathers?

I think some fire would be cool for background, and you could make the fire reflect off the metallic wings.

photoshop gradient tools they make gradual shading a sinch (but be careful how you use it.)

they aint gradients.

its dodge/burn lol
what i do it have it about 25% and if things go wrong i just smudge them into place.

things would go much faster if i had a wacom =0
and of course im gonna finish it by adding tail feathers and such =P
