Hi all! As you see this is my first post on Sijun so I'm new ,of course
I would appreciate some comments and constructive critics from you ... so here we go:
And here a little detail shot:
It's by far not perfect, but I have to go on at some point and just want to know what you all think about it.
Thx in advance,
Harry

Hi, welcome to Sijun!
About your picture: I like it, but there are a few points I'd like to mention.
There are a few anatomy issues, especially the shoulder area feels a bit disproportionate. The kanji on his hat looks like it is backwards, or rather, mirrored.
What are the floating balls around his hand?
Also, both he and his surroundings look very much more chinese than japanese,and if he's a karateke, like the title suggests, then it would feel a bit more appropriate if he were in japan...He looks a lot more like some sort of "kung fu-practitioner" than a karateka. Apart from my anal complaints, I like the picture, especially the sky and the valley. |

I don't normally like bright colors, but you pulled the colors off very well. Great job. I also love your brush styles and the details on the buildings. |

First of all, critics :
IMHO, I think that if you wanted to give the feeling of a karateka practicing, it would have been great to give him a more martialist position : better guard and a lower position on leg. At the moment he seems to be between 2 martial positions while being static... a little strange... It is neither a kung-fu or a karate position
The "ball" effect on hands is really not necessary. But if you want some magical effect, make it more noticeable. Bigger magic, not 5 small balls
About you clothes folds, it is a nice work, but I would have preferred more dynamic folds. In that case, it seems only that he has forgotten to iron his clothes
Now Praises:
Nice work on background, details and colors. It seems you spent a lot of time and hard work on this one. The overall picture is really well balanced.
I personnally like vivid colors and you did great here
BTW, I love the sky in this picture

First of all, thank you all for your critics and comments
@Daijoobu: You're right - the sign on his kanji is flipped, because I forgot to flip the image back before loading it up
It means 'Hate' btw [if I remeber correctly]
The surrounding IS chinese, that's right and I didn't spend much time on thinking about the title of the piece, so you are right with this also
Everytime I flipped the image, the shoulder somehow looked wrong, so I always tried to paint it a little bit different. That's perhaps the reason why it looked wrong in the end *?!*
Hmm, I would like to know, if the kanji is traditionally fixed on the head with some string or band
@cheney: thx
@lostpapers:
I have the same opinion about the pose, but it was difficult to bring in some 'dynamics' because it's my first try on painting. That's also why the clothing is not really natural. Especially on the legs it is bad :/
Now to the 'balls': I just 'hurried' them in at the end, to have some special effect in it, so they don't have a real purpose and that's perhaps the reason why they just don't really fit in.
Now I'll load up the correctly flipped version ![](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) |

The detail in the picture is amazing, the colors and shading uve applied go well. personnaly tho i think his body is a little to long, but this may be the way his cloths hang off him |
